I actually took these pictures with my phone last month and never got around to uploading them. This was a day after one of those brief and infrequent rains we get in my neck of the woods. Most of the time this little gully/arroyo is bone dry.

Coyote's got to drink too.

There was still quite a bit of water on the surface a day after the rain, but it would be gone by the next day. You can find in in low spots and shady spots. Finding water in winter is usually not a problem because there are often pockets of snow all over, and depending on the year a full cover of snow.

I went out the day after the rain expecting to have to dig to find water, but it was right there on the surface. If I get another nice day at home I will see if I can find water in this intermittent stream bed by digging, even when the surface is totally dry. It will be worth the experiment, anyhow.
