I came in second! Got my trophy in the mail today. We had 51 boats total and 7 in my class.

Congrats!  I did quite a bit of flatwater canoe and kayak racing.  I still have a woodstrip racing canoe under cover.

Honestly, I used it as an excuse to go on a section of flat water near the house 1 hour after work 6 times and early on 2 Sundays over 3 weeks before the race. I mainly used that time to relax, enjoy being outside and get used to my paddle stroke. I timed my runs every time and did improve my performance. On raceday I left the starting line and paddle as fast as I could comfortably as I could. Paddled The 4.8 miles in 47.28 seconds. The dude that won paddled a 47.27. We were side by side at the finsh and I was exhausted.  :canoe:
