You should broaden your search from Norwegian to just birch.  You will find scales in a lot of the curly birch grades but the top stuff is three times what your local guy wants and the poor stuff is a little less.  By the board foot it is probably close to impossible to find good grades of curly birch at anywhere close to cheap prices.  There are craft packs with little or no figure that are selling for $10 a BF and come in 10 BF packs for $100 to 110 per pack.

$10 is a bargain for knife scales that you are searching for.

mabey i'm just cheap , as for cury birch right now i have
six Bd'ft in the wood shop and as much of the curly maple,
but what i'm looking for has a unique pattern yo it. it's
more spots here and there if that makes sense.
but if if cut it right i can get 3 sets of scales from 2 blocks.

the guy told me he orders it from norway, but would'nt tell me where.

A euro is about $1.16 at the moment and when you throw shipping in it might be more expensive that local stuff.  If shipping low then it is a bargain.

thanks wsdstan, well i found out some things a little while ago.
one a place i do bussiness with actully carries it.
it's proper name is masur birch, and to buy a board foot of the stuff,
i'd likely have to call the loan officer at the bank.
so i guess crash was right 10'00 a blank is cheap.
one place wanted 37;00 for a pc. only a inch longer than what i've been buying.
this really bites. oh and BTW it is nolonger imported to the us,

something like what ever places have in stock is all they have.
thus i gather causing the price to skyrocket.
