One of our members asked me to make an Intrepid with a slightly longer blade. This one has an overall length just under 10 inches, where the regular Intrepid is just under 9".

The sheath came out great, it's got a very solid, tight retention. I included the usual tension screw but I doubt it will be needed.

Here are some beauty shots...

Thanks for looking! :)

Now that is bad as all! What's the skinny on the grind? Somebody is getting a really cool blade.

The grind is a saber, or medium height flat grind. I left it a little thicker at the edge than most common flat grinds to give a little more "meat" there for durability. The edge bevel itself is approximately 36-38 degrees inclusive. Should make for a long wearing edge. it can be sharpened very sharp, but will wear longer than an extremely acute edge angle like a Mora knife, for example.

Red, I used a little creative license here since he wanted the quench finish left on the blade. I have a 16 micron polish on the first Intrepid. Next time I order belts I might get an even finer one.

Congrats Matt! That there is a great looking knife!! I'm really liking the combination of the forge finish and the flat green micarta.

PW- Is that bead blasted or rough sanded? It looks like it would be nice and grippy in the hand.

It's hand sanded with 150 grit. The beauty of linen and canvas micarta is that the fibers tend to "poke" out of the surface while the phenolic is abraded away by the sandpaper. It makes a nice grippy surface when it's left sanded. But it can be buffed to a high gloss if the application warrants it.

Blasting it would leave a similar finish, but I only have one blast cabinet and changing out the media is a PITA. I'd have already some some sweet bead blast satin finishes on some of my knives if it were easier. The problem is going from a coarse grit to a fine grit means you have to clean it out meticulously so you don't blemish the finish with the occasional coarse grain in the mix. Going from fine to coarse isn't as big a deal. You just dump out the fine and dump in the coarse, no cleaning needed since the occasional fine particle isn't going to make a dent in the coarse finish.

That's awesome looking PW!  It seems so much larger until the pic in the sheath and next to a standard model.  The grind looks like it will be very durable.  Great job!!

Lol, I take it you would want the highly polished primary bevel then? :D

When I get caught up with all the spring landscaping and all that mess and have a little more free time, I'd love to do a trade. I'd be proud to have one of your knives in my collection.

as would i :) but there will be no polished bevel on mine. mine will get the snot kicked out of it, so it will only get marred up anyway :) we can discuss terms later in the year :D

I'm really digging this one too. I love the grind and especially the patina finish. What is the blade length on this one? Did you split the overall length increase with the blade and handle or is it all blade?

The blade is just under 5" and all of the additional length is in the blade.

I'd fancy havin one that is like that one..
I really don't  need another pig-sticker, but that there is so good lookin to me, with that sheath, I would fancy havin one.

Pity that I am close enuff to being busted broke, that I am afraid someone will try to charge me just to look... or I'd order one of them.
