Ah yes.. St. Paddy's day is just around the corner. :)     I like doing a few of those too for the local Irishmen around here that collect them. 
 
I'm at a carving stall right now..  driving me a lil but nuts.

You could make a tool roll for your carving stuff. Maybe it'll get your carving mojo back.

You will think of something. My first big leather purchase was a side and I ended up making a hat, a couple of holsters, a belt, and a few other things. Worked out well. I have since been getting double shoulders because they are a bit smaller and I haven't used as much as fast. Still have a lot of leather left right now.

The doubles are great. A lot less expensive that a whole hide but still large enough to do some of the bigger projects. You can also pickup a single shoulder which is nice because you can get some different weights for smaller projects.
You done anything with your side yet Buckskin?

Nope Nick, I have been being a creative bum. 

The side I got, I got for the price of a shoulder.  It was a huge score in my book.

I am going to make a belt sheath for a little Colt fixed blade I have.  I have a few honey do's to tend to first, like get the garden in.

Thought I would try my hand a some bark carving.  This piece is about 12" long, 3" wide at the widest point and about 1" thick.

I am finding carving bark is a whole other world.

Thats a nice chunk of bark that you got there.  :)    Love those nice thick ones.   Are you liking to carve on it?  Its flaky at first..but the deeper you go it quits and carves nicely.    If a flake should pop out on ya.. I just use some elmers wood glue to glue it back on and carve it again later after it dries.  :)   

Did you get your book yet?

Sorry I am just getting back to you.  We had a six tornado train on the 31st and have been with out power for 46 hours.

I did get my book and some bark about 4" thick from SMWC.  I have read most of the book and will get back to carving again after I get all the storm damage cleaned up.  Our house is fine just a lot of limbs down and flooding for our property.  I never thought I would have to ride out 6 of the damn things below ground for 2.5 hours.  It was just crazy.
