Do you know the history of the name of the butte?  We have a Crow butte in Butte county SD.  It got its name from a fight between the Crows and Lakota back in 1822 and another in 1858.

Once again, I rely on James Hanson, Director of The Museum of the Fur Trade in Chadron for information that was published in their quarterly.  This article from The Rapid City Journal talks about it....

After a quick google search I see there are a few buttes in the area that support many activities.
