EGYPTIAN WALKING ONIONS
« on: April 27, 2016, 06:03:44 PM »
Anybody grow them?  I need a few top-sets to get a patch going again.  I'll trade you a dried sourdough starter kit for a handful of them.

Technically, you are correct, Unk......but they are WALKING onions, not running onions. There's a time factor going on here, too.

If I don't get any before next year, I may hit you up when you get some to spare, Orbean.

Not sure if there are any good "head sets" out there....but I have them.
Pretty invasive.

Will need to wait till get home, as they are 200 miles away right now,.... as we are at the cabin.
If you are still looking in a week or two...may be able to send you some?

This thread smacks of a bad SciFi movie.

LOL yeah they spread......
Took some heavy duty weed killer to do in the last batch I would expect.

I gonna try mailing some out...so I called the "mail it store" and asked if I could mail onions.....
Girl (sounded young...but then again so do all girls...) says , "What?....
I said oinons,
She says "What?"...
I said "You know.... like you put on hamburgers? ..
So she said "Oh...as long as they are not illegal"?

So I said, "Well I get stuff from seed companies all the time...so I thinking they are OK, maybe just a little stinky?"

You know this is all worth the entertainment value, .....no matter what happens......

Just stopped at an old homestead that was demolished about 10 years ago on some state land to let the dogs run a bit this afternoon. [ Same place I did some videos about milkweed ovums/etc.] Don't usually stop there this time of year... JUst a quik stop & there they were...

They have been "walking" since the place was demolished I am betting & there is a patch the size of 3 crew cab pick em ups growing.

Not anything but green stems right now, since it is Spring here, but they are certainly there to be had for the using.

I read that Hunter63 has ya taken care of Wolfy, & I am late to the party, but there are a "shetload" from what I can tell where I saw them. I will be eating them stalks like chives when I get by there next time. And taking some of the onions when they get ready too.
;)

G'luck with your patch!

The ones I sent you are from a guy that we used to Rondy with......

Every year on Memorial Weekend, we had a camp and shoot...
Then on Monday, a color guard of Mountainmen went to several cemetery services for the salute.

Saturday nights meal was a camp stew....big caldron ......every one brought quarts of "fixin's"....to add as well as meat form last years huts....
Was served with those onions and big hunks of corn bread, fresh churned butter and honey.
....and maybe a Brewski or three.

You will be carrying on a tradition.
