Got my favorite back today
« on: February 19, 2017, 07:16:02 PM »
My son borrowed the axe several years ago and I have missed it since. I find comfort in the fact that I know he has put it to use. I want to strangle him for the condition in which I find it today.  I've loved it a time or two for him since he got it but I sure wanted it back. I got it back today and I sent him down the road with a new x15 fiskers.  I will bring this one back to life. KIDS

This sucker is rough.

I thought I raised him better.

I asked what kind of wire he was cutting.

Really....

A ran it on the belt for a few minutes to blow off some steam. Cleaned the head and haft some too.

Gonna have to use it some to make it better again for sure.

Tried to give it a quickie make over. It sure needed it. The handle is still tight so I'm happy about that.

No telling what the poor things been through. It is safe at home now.

I sure love my son but he has some axe lessons to learn.

Reminds me of the time l loaned my nice old double-bitted Plumb to a friend of mine to "chop down a few saplings."    I got it back with serrations on BOTH edges.....he'e used it to chop out some volunteer elms and mulberry trees growing up along the foundation of his garage and machine shed!  :pissed:

The edge survived well enough considering how he wore that hammer head smooth off

Speaking of polls, why do the polls in these two pictures look entirely different?

I was wondering what happened to this one.  Hadn't seen it for a long while.  Glad you got it back and looks like just in time too.  Good work.  Should be good for your next canoe trip!

This is why I have what I refer to as my "loaner axes".  seeing them come back rough is expected and okay.  I just put a quick edge on them and wait for the next one who will need it.

I understand how you feel, but if nothing else at least you got it back.  Sometimes that happens, they borrow something and then know nothing about what happened to it when it comes time to return it...

I'm like OE, I have a couple that are the only ones I'll loan out, or take camping with the group.  The wood handled ones stay home!

I'm sure he did all kinds of stuff with this little axe. That's what I gave it to him for though. So I'm not at all mad nor disappointed. It ain't like Ive never beat one to death. That's what sharpeners are for. I hate to even think what that x15 is gonna look like next time I see it. I told him it was unbreakable. I hope he don't prove me wrong.

I'm actually happy that he borrows piles of my stuff and uses it. He and girlfriend enjoy camping out and I am AOK with that!

Yeah, the edge looks like maybe he chopped some roots with it. :D

Looks like it came right back for you though. It is fun to get a long lost favorite tool back. Stuff like that only happens rarely.
