Thanks guys, I am pleased as punch to finally get close enough with the flintlock.  It really was gratifying to take one with it.

 ALLLL RIGHT!   Score another one for the flinters!

Great story, too, Stan.....I love it when those spur-of-the-moment hunts pan out like that.  ;)

Me too Wolfy.....

Sometimes the best things happen when you least expect it.

I cleaned the trade gun up a few minutes ago.  It is still the hardest cleaning thing I own.  Took 12 patches and the last one had a bit of soot on it but not enough to bother me.  Used a little Ballistol to wet it down and left it alone for now.

This flintlock has turned into a good shooter.  Right now (knock on wood) it has gone off perfectly for (I think) 16 shots in a row.  Same flint.  Chambers telling me to drill that lock out to 1/16" and getting the flint aligned correctly made a lot of difference in the ignition consistency.  He also told me to look in the touch hole and see if I can see powder.  If I can he said it will go off.  He was right.

I don't know what "drill that lock out to 1/16'" means?   What part did you drill? :P

I don't know what "drill that lock out to 1/16'" means?   What part did you drill? :P

He had me drill the touch hole out.  He asked if I shot in competition and when I replied that it was just for hunting he suggested that.  That is when it started igniting with every shot.

Since it is part of the barrel I should have said "He had me drill out the touch hole to 1/16".  Sorry.

Common sense told me it was the touchhole, but when you said "lock" it had me wondering. ???
