First hike of the year
« on: February 21, 2017, 08:47:57 AM »
Took advantage of the 70F temps yesterday and my daughters were out of school for President's Day. We logged the first hike of the year ... about 4 miles.

On the way up House Mountain - Smoky Mountains in the background

Kids make fun of the old man's walking stick...

This was our lunchtime view from one of the overlooks

Thinking about an overnighter this week - daytime highs over 70F with lows in the 50's

Looks like a neat area.  Nice that you have good company on your hikes.

Quality time in the woods.

Those are good temps for an overnighter with kiddos!  Get out there and do it!  Beautiful area to play in Sarge!

Thanks for taking us along, Sarge!    I agree with the others on the camping trip......this is one of the two best times of the year to tent or tarp camp, as far as I'm concerned.

Early Spring and most of the Autumn are usually temperate, bug-free and surprisingly free of other campers.

Kinda looks like my back yard! Glad you got out. What age are your youngins? Especially nice to share the outdoors with them. I agree with the bug free camp too.  Get busy.

Yep, no bugs! That was a big plus on this hike. Last time were up there - yellow jackets everywhere!

Creek, my girls are 17 and 15. It doesn't seem possible they've grown up this fast. They still like to fish and hike with their old dad. I'll take them as long as they'll go.

The girls are worried about rain in the forecast on Friday night so they don't want to camp. They're such girls! Haha. I'll get them out soon.
