holster for a stevens tip up
« on: April 09, 2017, 06:57:02 PM »
I recently made a holster for my stevens. Used some leather from tandy, artificial sinew, and brown dye. Seemed to have turned out black though. Used a brass stud for holding the flap down. here's a few pics, thanks for looking

I like how it looks dyed.  Has an old look in the photo and the tip up fits really well.  Nice job.

thanks for the comments.... The stevens tip up pistol is probably my favorite handgun. this one is a pre-1898 and in in 22 lr. It's my trapline gun.  I'm really digging holster making, have a few oddballs that require a custom holster. now onto one for my british bulldog.

Very cool gun, and nice job on the holster.  It really matches gun to me...great job!!

My experience with the dyes is the Fiebings solvent based dyes will look almost black like you said, even if you use a light brown, but the water based dyes from Tandy (maybe now in the "Eco" line) will stay more brown than turn dark.  Just FYI
