Town of KICCO Get Together
« on: April 16, 2017, 03:56:17 PM »
Had a great camp with Crash, MadMax, Mannlicher and Spyder this weekend at the Town of KICCO camp in Florida. Spyder and I came in on Friday, while the others came in on Thursday. It was a blast hanging out with a great group of guys in the middle of nowhere with perfect camping weather. We all ate well, hydrated well and got revitalized by just hanging out and relaxing. There were more knives than I could count and we all had a blast passing some around trying them out.

I came home with a new filet knife and a couple of quarts of Apple Pie from Dave,  some excellent sauce from Sam, and some deer burger from Spyder, and a fully belly from Tony. Thanks guys, always a blast.

A few knives that Crash brought along. Fortunately for the rest of us, his load was a little lighter for the trip home.

Crash's new camp kitchen. We put it to good use.

Crash made me a very cool fillet knife in a trade for the camp kitchen. Awesome knife that will be put to good use. This picture doesn't do it justice, I'll take a better shot and post it up later.

A batch of D.O. Buttermilk Biscuits I made up Saturday morning.

A batch of homemade cinnamon rolls cooked in a Dutch oven Saturday morning.

MadMax cooked up some excellent sausage gravy while Spyder cooked up some tasty potatoes, eggs and bacon.

I played around with a new Coleman camp oven. It worked surprisingly well. I put in a clay baking stone in the bottom to help the oven retain some heat, and it worked good. Unfortunately by baking stone cracked,  but the oven did its job. I baked some homemade pizza rolls, and a few loaves of homemade bread.

I made some Strawberry Shortcake for desert and whipped up batch of fresh whipped cream for the topping. Crash seemed to enjoy it.

This is Sam's Insta-Tarp configuration.

I drove back in convoy with Tony, but lost him once we got to I-75.  Unloaded the truck, and will get some pictures posted in the morning.  What a great camp, and with some of the best folks ever.  Kracaneuners rule.   :)
I know I gained 10 pounds.  Home made Strawberry shortcake in camp, with home made whipped cream?  No on does that.  From scratch deep dish pizza in the DO?  A first for me.  White bread made in camp, biscuits, chile, roast with root vegetables?  Pounds an pounds of  bacon, sausage, dozens of eggs.  I brought home made Kumquat Marmalade, imported French butter, hot sauce and Bulleit Rye Whiskey.   :)

What a great camp.

I'll get some pictures up shortly.

Was it wrong of me to laugh out loud when I was putting gas in the truck......wearing the same ball cap I wore all weekend, when a car with four individuals in it, playing loud salsa music pulled in behind me.  The driver got out to gas up his car......I said "Hi".....he looked at me and promptly got back in his car and drove off.

Sometimes I just crack myself up.

Sam, next time you put up some of that Kumquat Marmalade, make sure to set a couple of jars aside for Stacy and I, we love that marmalade.

Dave, loved that Border Patrol hat, too funny.

Did we mention the dogs?

There was lotsa this.

Spyder tuning up a homemade bow.

And testing.

Some of us are getting up in years and I guess Mannlicher decidedwe might need IV's... or was it dialysis?

What a great time.  Nobody wanted to leave.

Looks like a great meet Tony,  that's the only problem with them is the time getting too them is much too long,  and then when you finely get there and get set up,  it's time to pack up and go home,  I don't care if it's a week end or for a week,  it's always over much too fast.

Thanks for taking us along.

I'm eating on roast, taters, and carrots.  Biscuits.  Bear sausage and steak are getting cooked tonight.  (THANKS SPYDER!).  All leftovers.

...Oh yeah and awesome sauce from Mannlicher.  Kelly and I love it.  Thank you!

FYI.  Max's slight foot problem turned out to be a torn claw.  Not vertically, horizontally.  They had to rip it out right down to the bone.  He was chasing a rabbit this morning.  LOL.

Tony, glad max is doing good.

Sam, have you tried that camp made sour cream yet? When I got home on Sunday, I mixed up a new batch since I had leftover heavy whipping cream and buttermilk and let it ferment for 2 days. Made a baked potato for dinner tonight just to try it out. MUCH better than store bought sour cream (or the French name, Creme Fraiche).

Yeah yeah.

Even the guy that sold it to me at BassPro asked why I wanted that gun.

"Because it's FL and it rides fine in a pair of surf trunks."

Sorry I missed this camp but being Easter weekend and the wife planning a get-together at our house ther was no breaking away.

The food looks amazing like always, I think I only gained a pound by looking at the pictures. That one year for Steve's birthday I put on a few pounds by attending the trip.

Dave I love the story about the hat. LOL

Greg's subtle humor is really quite amazing.  It was rather enjoyable watching the "insta-tarp" go up over about a 45 minute period.  Kind of like a Who's On First routine.
