**For Sale "New Hunter"** SOLD
« on: June 30, 2012, 12:53:21 PM »
SOLD

For lack of a more inspired name, I'm just calling this my "new hunter". I got out to the shop to put the finishing touches on it, and etched my logo.

Specs are:

5/32" O1 tool steel
Desert ironwood scales
C360 brass bolsters
brass/stainless Loveless bolts
9" overall length
4.5" blade

Ok, I really like this knife/sheath combo. It's not intended to be a bushcraft or survival knife (I wouldn't baton with it). It's a hunting knife, designed for cutting animal flesh and skin. The thickness at the edge is made very thin, for ease of sharpening, and improved cutting performance. But that comes at the cost of less toughness vs. a knife like my Intrepid that has a thicker edge.

Anyhow, it will be hard to see this one go. I could be persuaded to part with it for $315 shipped to U.S. addresses. SOLD

Thanks for looking!

That is one fine looking blade, PW.  I like the classic look it has.  It definitely needs a leather sheath.

GB, I knew this one was going to get leather when I was sketching the profile. ;) It's not the sort of knife you'd want to wrap in plastic.

Thanks guys!

Wolfy, I was going for a shot that would show off the high polish by reflecting the wood in the blade. It was pure luck that the reflected grain appears to flow into the grain of the handle. :)

For me the tooling is the fun part. It's the stitching I could do without. Maybe I'll do one of those all rivet sheaths sometime soon...

What everyone else said times a gazillion.

WOW, knife and sheath both.
Upon this a question arises: whether it be better to be loved than feared or feared than loved? One should wish to be both, but, because it is difficult to unite them in one person, it is much safer to be feared than loved.

This one is sold. We had company come stay with us last week and when they saw it in person they snatched it up right away. :)

I feel like it was my nicest build to date and I will miss seeing it on the shelf in the office. But it went to a good home.

I definitely want to revisit this design after I get the tools moved and set up at the new house.

I've used that combination with ivory micarta before.  It's a striking look, but more difficult to polish, it seemed to me

Stainless will definitely use up more belts than brass. The nickel silver is essentially white brass, so it works pretty easy. The stainless won't scratch as easily though. But peening the rivets in stainless will be more of a chore as well.

The polishing of the ivory micarta and getting black polishing compound residue out of micro-scratches in it was the REAL PITA!

Ah, yeah I can imagine!  I have had good results removing waxy stuff with ronsonol lighter fluid. I no longer smoke but I still have a bottle of the lighter fluid around to use as a quick de-greaser/solvent. Works great for removing the glue left behind by price tags, tape and stickers.
