I took the double out with a friend Saturday. The weather was beautiful and with the rain the water was flowing good.

Nice to see things getting green

The tree that has fell is gonna wind up being a pain I'm afraid. It's collecting piles of debris

Some pretty blue flowers

The little birds are back in droves

Another nice day, I'm going to do a thread on my Sunday so as not to derail this one...

Good stuff Creek 8)

I'm not a 'safety nut' by no means, but you guys need to watch out for yourselves at that logjam.
Those things can drown you real quick.
It happens way too much out here on the rivers.
I float and fish the rivers out here a little bit and those things will suck you in and under in a hurry!

Just my 2 cents worth :)

You got an axe creek.  You can take care of that downed tree.  make a day of it trying out a couple axes.

I did my traditional Birthday solo about a week ago.  I had to test some new equipment out I got for my birthday on my little excursion.

The Fox River was so flooded my usual camp site was 4 feet under water so I had to relocated.

Here's the big item I'm testing.  I'm usually a hammock hanger but I decided to get a single tent from Eureka!

I got a decent pile of fire wood the lights fading and it's time to get my Birthday dinner ready!

Yeah, my canoe is a bit longer than I'd like but it does the trick.  The Eureka's cozy (if you're not claustrophobic).  I wanted it for a pack tent.

Nice to see other rats getting out!! Thanks for posting your outing. Any time outdoors is better than most anything else I know. I'm glad you had a good time and Happy Birthday! I took my newest old canoe out for a little cruise tonight to check for leaks. A positive report.

I hope to be on a river in a few hours! Once the family is up and the bride and I drop of the youngest at school. The lady at the place I put in told me the brim bite is on good so I'm taking the fly rod.  Now I need to go through my bags on my work bench and find those poppers I got on sale. Well just wanted to buil up some anticapation and get you thinking about your weekend.

Alright got out this morning for a while with the bride (aka) the trolling motor! Lol. As we paddled down the river taking pics of birds and trees and whatever. I had my 8' #6 fly rod and was catching brim up and down the river. Using the white cork rubber legged spider popper.  Caught a few and had a great time. We were going to hike a skidder trail that's on a island area but it has not been maintained in a while. I opted out of blazing a trail and helping the wife get covered in ticks. So she help put the boat in position for me to fish or just took pics.

So that was the trip. Told the wife we(she) has to work on making sure the fish are in the frame. Lol she did a good job though.

Alright kids who else is gonna get some pics and water time this weekend?

Well I finally got in a little paddle time.  Unfortunately this is probably be my last trip to this lake.  You'll see why below.  But it was still better than no time out.

Well here is takeout

making some headway.  It was very windy and dad really got a workout to say the least

Had to pull over for a break at my hidden spot at the back of the lake.

Unfortunately it has been ruined.  They cleared out a "road" so people could have access to the back of the lake and you know what "More people" means  >:(

there were busted beer bottles all over the place and the bags had been ripped open by critters and trash was just everywhere.  This wasn't the only spot like this either.  I checked a couple others and it was the same.  This lake was just surrounded by garbage.  Very unfortunate.  There used to be only one side the public non-boat people could get to and it was always dirty but you could get away from it in a boat.  Not anymore though

well we went back out and tried fishing a few spots but no luck.  the water was pretty stained and the wind sure wasn't helping either

well it was only a couple hours on the water but it was still fun to get out.   I'll have to try a couple other lakes I know of next time and hopefully be able to do more and have an actual trip report to post.

thanks for looking

OE glad you got out and admire you for even going in that wind. I'm sure your fishing buddy didn't care. It makes me sick how people can litter so bad.

Creek your bird flew down here for the summer. Come on down and I'll show you where he's at. But you'll need the Silver Queen.   :canoe:

River Rats Nest/Bridges on the Smith

The COE has expanded their generating schedule lately so I've been able to explore the northern part of the river more. Last week I decided to take some shots of the bridges along the way. This route is very rocky during low water, but is a very nice ride with water in the banks.

Thanks for looking

Got out for a little while Saturday, Water was very low. Still nice to paddle some.

A cool little cove I've never noticed before.

A neat old train bridge along the way

I'm sure this thing has had millions of tons of coal on it's back

The fog was coming in by the time we made it to the last set of bridges. Normally all the debris at the base of the pillars is almost almost under water.

Hope I get to go again today!

Very nice spot SH.  Do I spy a pair of xtra tuf boots in the canoe?
Upon this a question arises: whether it be better to be loved than feared or feared than loved? One should wish to be both, but, because it is difficult to unite them in one person, it is much safer to be feared than loved.

i just wish i could do that, it would sure save me a lot of aggravation to be able to take out where i put in! :) :)

The current is slow and nothing to paddle against unless in your in a couple of the bottleneck areas. It sure makes it easier when you don't have to shuttle cars too.

I was able to get out again today. Mot much flow but still great to be outdoors. The weather was beautiful at first...poured on us for a little while too.

found a cool spot to stop for a bit. We had a youngin with us that wanted to get wet. This is looking back upstream.

Our friends were pulling a tube. The little one was riding in it till her butt got cold.

If you look close you can see mom in the tube ...on the rocks,,

The butterflys were having fun too

It rained on us for about 30 mins..no big deal but no waterproof camera :)
