Gentlemen, this is certainly turning into one hell of a fine porn thread. Let's keep it going. I'll post more myself later today.

Redneck knife kit I did...1/8" 1095, stabilized elm burl, stainless hardware.

Red makes a great blade for sure...and sharp as hell!

This is an older pic...I'll replace it with a newer one as soon as I get a chance to get out again.

Here's my Blind Horse stable:

A couple old beasts:

Modded Condor Hudson Bay and homemade cross-draw sheath:

Modded BK2 and homemade sheath:

I gave it a nice convex.  It really improves the cutting ability.

Crusty old Anza:

Still more to come...

LOL!  Thanks Remo.  There are a good deal more, I just don't have pics of them.  I'll work my way through them eventually.  I've collected them like a fiend for over 20 years.

Well, here's a couple more.  Tonight is Jeff White knife night!

L-R: Jeff White Nessmuk w/ cherry scales; French trade knife w/ osage orange scales; French trade w/ stained curly maple scales; English trade w/ cherry scales.  All are 3/32" thick.  These are the models he's been selling for some time.

These are new releases.  They are all just called "trade knives".  All are 1/8" thick.  L-R: Small skinner looking thing has cherry scales.  Blade is 4? long, 1-7/8"wide, and 7-5/8" OAL.  Recurve w/ oak scales: Blade is 6? long, 1-7/16"wide, and 10-7/8" OAL.  Kephart style w/ curly maple scales:  Blade is 5-1/2" long, 1-3/8" wide, and 10" OAL.  The big'un is handled in oak.  Blade is 8" long, 1-5/8" thick, and 12-3/4" OAL.  It looks like a longer version of Jeff's collaboration with Robert Jones (Beo-wulf) called the "Rancher".  That's a great knife, and I expect these new ones to be just as good.

I still have to make sheaths for all of these things.  What have I done?!!!  LOL.  Thanks for lookin'.

Thanks guys!  Yeah, Jeff makes a nice knife for a bargain price.  They don't come with sheaths unless you buy them from Robert Jones/Beo-wulf.  He sells Jeff's knives with his sheaths on ebay for a darn good price as well.  I have no problem making sheaths for knives that don't cost a fortune.  I've really taken to leatherwork and this gives me an excuse to do some.

Makes trying one as a general purpose woods knife very tempting.

Absotootly. :D

It's a camp knife I ordered from Finnish knife and bow maker Ilkka Seikku. As I said before, it's a modified version of Ilkka's original BushProwler design. The modifications include a longer blade, a slight convex, a cow horn bolster and a "hidden full tang". What I mean by this is that the knife almost has a full-width tang (as in sandwich tang), but the entire tang is contained within the wooden handle and is secured with two rivets. This gives me the advantages of a full-tang knife (strength for light prying, batoning, (eventually) joint separation etc.) and the advantages of a stick tang (minimal skin-to-metal contact on the handle for comfort in very cold weather, "warm" feel etc.).

Some tech-specs:

Blade material: Spring steel (differentially tempered)
Blade length: 15 cm, 6"
Blade thickness: 4 mm, 0.16"
Blade height: 27 mm, 1"
Blade grind: Slight convex
Blade shape: Slight drop-point
Blade tang: Hidden full tang
Blade finish: Forge finish with mirror-polished bevel

Handle material: Rowan wood, dyed dark for rustic look
Handle bolster: Cow horn
Handle spacer: Leather
Handle attachment: Two rivets
Handle cross-section profile: Egg-shaped

Sheath material: Cow hide
Sheath color: Dark brown
Sheath insert: Carved wood
Sheath design: Modified BushProwler (differences: stitched up the back, firesteel loop on back)

A few pics in use (chopping and splitting spruce wood and cutting spruce branches):

Yes this big lunk is a knife for field craft and side arm use. 160 years old, shaving sharp and sports an edge geometry so adapted to it's use it's hard to think of a way to improve it. Yes it is convex, yes it has a varied bevel angle but less pronounced since it's been resharpened a good many times. From the days of proper "bush sword" usage.

Modern Swedish knife for size comparison.

Gossman Big Boar 9" Tusker 1/4" Thick A2

The BBT is the best knife for batoning I've ever used:

It makes a nice feather stick even when you're rushing it.

The mighty, mighty Tusker strikes a bold a pose.  Notice the generous and highly functional choil.

If I remember correctly, you bought a Jeff White/Beo-wulf collaboration Kephart a while back with no handle materials on it so that you could handle it yourself.  If I am right, did you finish it yet?  I would really like to see a pitcure of it.

Thanks

Here ya go, Matt:

Jeff's new one on the left and the one I finished on the right.  I used bocote wood scales and modified the bottom of the handle a little.  I just didn't quite like the feel with the original finger notch so I ground it off and tapered the handle a little.  It feels really nice now.
