Desert Ironwood-lore high polish, very nice!
« on: April 02, 2012, 07:00:33 PM »
This has to be one of the prettiest knives I've made to date.

It's a classic woodlore, with file work and a highly polished blade.

Specs are:

Desert Ironwood scales (book matched)
Black vulcanized liners
Brass/Stainless Loveless bolts
5/16" brass lanyard tube
5/32" thick O1 tool steel

This is for sale, but I won't be pricing it until I get a sheath made. (Going to try to do something special for the sheath.)

Anyhow, here are a few preliminary pics. There will be more when the sheath is finished.

Thanks for looking!

Lol, thanks guys!

I hope whoever winds up with it likes it. I haven't done "fancy" scales in a while, and there were some of the nicest ironwood ones I have right now.

I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to do the sheath. I've got a few ideas but nothing really stands out yet...

I haven't done any leather in a while since my last three sheaths were kydex. But this one begs for a fancier than normal sheath. I think it might be time to try the rabbit fur inlay I've been thinking about.

Very nice PW, what a unique blade to have.  I'd make one for myself if I were you, or keep this one ;)

That's just awesome looking!!

Did you every use the celtic border tool you got?  I've been wanting to see what you had in mind for it.  I was thinking maybe a border around the stitching?  I think that would set one off rather nicely.

Thanks guys!

Dano,

I haven't used the tool yet. I haven't found the right project that really calls for it I suppose. Though I do have a book of Celtic tooling patterns and designs so maybe one day I'll apply them to a sheath, along with the tool.

Still waiting on time to make a sheath. I have been busy with all kinds of projects around the house. My in-laws are hinting at some home improvement projects that they think I should put ahead of everything else. FIL came over today unannounced and measured up my porch for a railing, then gave my wife a list of materials to pick up at the store. I think he should rebuild his garage, but I don't think it would go over so well if I went over to his house and started measuring things...

Tobit has dibs on it if he still wants to wait for the sheath. If not, I might be persuaded to sell the knife by itself without a sheath.

Ah yes, funny how Grandkids change things.  Suddenly you become a SLACKER!!!  LMAO.  Just kidding!

I always responded to intrusions as easily as possible..."thanks for offering, I'll let you know if I ever decide to do this to MY house!"  Usually it works.
