Older Video - BushPick build
« on: April 05, 2012, 12:16:41 AM »
I made this video a few months ago that highlights some of the steps involved in making one of my BushPick knives. I skipped a few steps because I was so engrossed in what I was doing I forgot to turn on the camera.

That's a pretty cool vid PW, I can't decide if this will help pass the time or make it worse though ;)

Great video.  Do you do anything special to give the scales that nice shine?  It looks like you go straight from the grinder to the buffer.

I do a fair bit of hand sanding from 120 grit >220> 320 then I buff them.

Do you foresee any long term problem with hard use, water, blood, ect. with the glue? Does it break down?

Pretty much ALL glues will eventually fail, it's inevitable. Cyanoacrylate glue forms a clear acrylic plastic when it cures. It's similar to plexiglas. I've been using loveless bolts on the knives with glued handles to give some mechanical attachment in addition to the adhesive.

Aquariums are made from acrylic, so water and water based liquids like blood should have no effect on the glue directly. Long term exposure to water can damage natural handle materials however, and rusting is an issue with water as well.

Acetone will dissolve cured CA glue (and a lot of other adhesives). So I'd suggest keeping the knives away from products containing acetone.

Thanks PW.

You're welcome! Sorry it took so long to respond. I've been preoccupied with things both at home and on the forum. Had to move a bunch of security cameras due to the nightmare neighbors next door.  :-\
