What is your favorite production Knife?
« on: February 09, 2012, 10:15:26 AM »
So what is your favorite Production Knife?
I have Beckers, Bucks, Kershaws, SAKs, CRKTs, and the list goes on................. ......
BUT
My favorite full sized Production Knife is my Doug Ritter/Becker Perserverance (MK2)
and
for a Production necker knife is my Becker Eskabar (BK)
and
for a Production EDC folder my SAK (I think it is a tinker but I am not sure)

Wow, that's a tough question. There are so many to choose from!

If I had to pick just one it would be the ESEE4. I think it's a good all-around size with a comfortable handle.

I don't have any ESEEs.  A buddy of mine, Sidecarr, (who should be joining this site soon), has more than a few.  I like the ESEE 5 although a little big and I like the "mini 5" = the ESEE 3 MIL although I have never seen one in real life.

I have a few of the ESEE3s too, and a few Izulas. They are nice knives. I've also got a few Beckers and hearing that they might be making glass-free sheaths now I might have to revisit them.

Other production knife companies I like are Kershaw and Buck. I like Gerber for their pliers, and for some reason the Gerber "steadfast" knife appeals to me. (More as something to look at than use.)

Oh, and I forgot, the SAKs of course! I like both Vix and Wenger, but I prefer the Wenger can opener.

Tough, tough question. When I had one, I really, really liked the Izula, but the "survival" and "tactical" knives have fallen out of favor with me, just as anything with plastic/rubber handles - which is why I got rid of all my once beloved Moras. I've even gotten rid of my SAKs. I currently just have my GRK Sheath knife, and I plan on putting my own handle on a blank. I don't know if this is "production" as you think of it, but, yeah. Never had a knife feels so right in my hand. Looking forward to the project.

I also want to find a very small scandi blade (I have a Roselli one, but it's actually too small) for putting a stacked handle on... As a carving necker knife. Very short, very sharp, detail work oriented. But, that's another topic...

So, if I had to choose, yeah.. GRK, and really just about any of those as they all seem "right" for me and my needs.

Edit: I also got to toy with a Queen folder the other day, I believe it was a whittler. I was really impressed with the quality, and I might buy a canoe, mini trapper, or liner lock to become my EDC. I also have my eye on the new Leatherman Rebar with the awl, that will be released sometime this year.

My friend, I have one of those, too.  It is an awesome knife.  I have a couple other knives by BHK.  I tend to buy them only if they are on the Monthly Special.  Fine knives!

you know.... ive been thinking about his question all day now. for the longest time i carried a schrade PH1. it was a fantastic blade, and thick too. stood up to anything i put in front of it.  then i found my ole beater that i just recently sold, and that was an awesome knife from a less than awesome company.

and as of right now, my EDC is a gerber gator 2 Folder.  tough call.... very tough...

i agree 100% there man, and i think the biggest problem i am having is that its been so long since i bought a production knife (or any knife really) that ive just gotten by with what i had.

Well I can't say the same. I have had to stop myself recently from buying production knives. I honestly think I am done with them for quite some time.

Yeah for a smaller sized production company those BHKs are really nice. Real loveless bolts are a nice touch.

That's a hard one to nail down.  Right now I'd probably have to say my CRKT Crawford Falcon.  It has a chisel grind and suits me well for being a lefty.  My EDC is the CRKT, a Vic One Hand Trekker and a Schrade Walden that I've probably had for close to 30 years.

Wow that is a long delay since Sept.  I think they got hit pretty hard with orders because it was/is such a good deal.  Which handle did you choose?

I don't know if you know but this month's special is a Woodsman.  Another, nice lookling knife but I have to take a pass.  My next one is a REDNECK!

Yeah, it took a while.  I ordered the green and black handle (most comfortable handle i have ever held).  It took this long cause they had an issue with getting the green & black micarta from their supplier... which happens.

The fit and finish on it is pretty good but i thought it would be sharper out of the box.  it sure doesn't shave hair and cuts paper a little raggedly.

I did see the Feb special. Its nice too but thank god they sold out before i could order one.... Lol.

I was contacted by BHK and was given the offer to buy a black handle one last month or so.  I guess they had a bunch of this one left over.  I would have liked to have gotten my son one of them but I had just spent too much on the holidays.

Mine was and still is really sharp.  It shaves the hair off my arms.

Send that blade to Red and you will get an unbelievable sharp edge. You won't be disappointed and Red has fast turn around.

Wow! :) Great Question Matt!!! :)
For the Woods & a Production Blade, I'd Have to go with an SK5 Blackbird, 154cm 5" Blade, Flat Ground, Designed by Paul Scheiter of Hedgehog Leatherworks, and produced by Ontario Knife Co. . I have a First Production Run Model, 1 of 100, and she is a nice blade! :D Even built my own Sheath for her and engraved the Blackbird Logo onto the Sheath!  8)
