My New Personal User Made for the Pot and Knife Challenge

(1/8) > >>

MATT CHAOS:
I am heading to the Florida Kracaneuners Pot and Knife Survival Challenge in a couple weeks or so.  I have several knives but I couldn't decide on which one to bring.  So, I decided to build my own.  I wanted a heavier knife that I could use as a chopper/hunter knife (is that my own classification).  I am not sold on a convex edge but I decided to put a very robust convex on this.  I think after the event, I will end up regrinding it and putting a scandivex on it.  My interpretation of scandivex is initially a scandi and then slightly convexing it.  Ultimately, whether I regrind it or not depends on how it performs.  I left a lot of "meat" on the scales because I have feebly large hands.  I have nerve issues in both my hands and a larger handle, definitely, helps me.  I left the forge finish on the knife because I think it looks good.  Usually, when I have a beauty queen type knife, I don't end up using it.  I end up looking at it and that's about it.  So overall, on this particular knife, I put 75% emphasis on getting a beauty finish.  As you can tell if you look hard enough that I left scratches in the scales etc.  This is because, I don't want to be afraid to use it.
I made the Kydex sheath.  The knife fits snug and won't fall out.  I tried a new technique with the kydex this time and I will be doing this with all my future sheaths.  When I get back and if this thing performs properly, I will reward it with a proper leather sheath and a high gloss handle finish.
Here it is followed by a build along.

Spec: O-1
5/32" thick
10" overall
5" blade
5" handle

Did you noticed it's sister knife in one of the photos?
She's not done yet but will hopefully be done soon with a layered handle that will make stick tang haters want it.   ;)

Wilderbeast:
Very nice robust looking knife but based on the pictures it can't be very sharp.... you still had hair on your arm

Seriously good work, now I'm eager to see the "stick tang haters" knife completed.

OutdoorEnvy:
I like it.  Looks like a great all round design.  Nice job

No I don't shave my arm hair.  I shave my leg hair.   ;)
Actually, I did the paper shaving test.  It comes out decent (better than I thought for a big thick convex).  It is not designed to be a hair splitter with the robust convex but more of a chopper.
