I think this is a great series......a little hard to get the secondary characters' names and roles straightened out in my mind once in a while, but other than that I'm really enjoying it!   The ships, arms, way of living & the quest for farmland that they lacked at home, but needed for perpetuation of the clans, being one of the paramount reasons for their raids in Europe........helps bring to mind the importance of farmland for food for those that get their food only from supermarkets. :)

Sorry old pard,  but I can't watch it,  I've tried,  but can't help thinking that the Vikings of old are no more than an antique version of today's radical towel headed terrorist,  give 'em a sword and innocent people to plunder and they can't start the blood letting fast enough to satisfy their depravity.

I'd just as soon watch re runs of Dual Survival.

I think it was the first episode I watched where the "good guys" are pictured in a scene where one of them visits his brother,  eats and drinks at his table, makes small talk,  and before he leaves he rapes his brothers wife violently,  just for the hell of it.

Not the kind of viewing I can support in good conscience old friend.

Well I'm gettin' old guy,  I'm affected by CRS from time to time,  I'll really try not to mention it again, but can't promise .
It's probably because I've seen way too much of people abusing each other in the past that I don't care to watch it as entertainment in my own home.
But then again,  I don't watch Dancing with the stars either.

I knew it was on and then forgot to watch it.  It is a complicated program to follow unless you watch all the episodes.  I will catch this one on the internet feed if it shows up there.

It seems to be an accurate portrayal of what we expect from a Viking but probably misses adding the multitude of significant contributions they made to western culture.

Is it just me, but in of the earlier episodes (I think it was "Warrior's Fate", episode 3 of season 3), wasn't there a Gransfors Bruks used in the scene when Torstein's arm is cut off?

Possible.......mayb e even likely, but I have enough trouble just keeping all the characters' names and roles straight from episode to episode! :P      Interesting series, though.

Yeah.....bummer! :'(    I think I'll get this season's episodes on Netflix and watch them all again right before it starts again next year.  We did that this season and it really helps us to straighten everything out in our minds again  :P :P........or pick up on anything we may have never understood if we missed one installment, when they were first televised.   NO DANGED COMMERCIALS, EITHER!

Before I dropped cable I watched some. What I saw on HC Netflix was weak. Is there a way to watch on netflix that's  more complete? Figure it out for me!

I'm not sure what you mean by, "What I saw on HC Netflix was weak."    We just order the DVDs from Netflix and all of each episode is there.....3-4 per disc and commercial-free.  We're watching past season's episodes of 'House of Cards' right now.......scary! :-\

It is scary, probably true lol what do I know? It did cause me to check out more of Spacey's films which I have mostly enjoyed.

I think you are referring to the program on the History Channel. What was available on Netflixs' HC was incomplete. Been awhile since I looked. Maybe it's not even netflix but HC on roku, I kinda forget how it works now. So that's what I meant by weak, if that even explains it.

incorrect.  I don't like the show either.   Vikings were just plain nasty people.   I don't watch shows that attempt to make 'bad' into 'good'.  Mob movies, Breaking Bad, Tarentino movies............  The entertainment value is just not worth wallowing in a cess pool of depravity.

"Victims" always cry and whine exaggerations, making things sound far worse than what actually occurred. Basing one's knowledge solely on the reports of victims will surely lead to a one sided view.

The Vikings is better than 98%  of what is called television programming, but it is a poor source as far as learning about history.  I take it as entertainment so it is fun to watch.

Sorry, I just scanned over the links. I will take more time later. Seems to be saying with another looksee, maybe some archaeology, there is good reason to question 19th c image of Viking? If that's not the gist I will read it sooner.

History is written by the victors, history is a lie agreed upon, and all that. In the end the Vikings were not the victors- by which I mean the early pagans
