Monthly Shoots
« on: March 07, 2017, 08:18:05 AM »
I put this here because I thought it would get better exposure.   There will be a prize for the aggregate winner of the monthly shoots.  The number I am thinking about is 6 months, the prize will either be a year subscription to B&B or some outdoor gear.

In order to be fair to all participants/possible participants then the "clock" should start with this months (March) target.

I will try and explain.
Go here  http://bladesandbushlore.com/index.php?topic=13675.0
See the March thread. You print the target , take a photo of it and post it in the thread.
Every month there will be a new "shoot" different target &rules such as range, type of firearm. Or maybe other projectile thrower such as slingshot, bow, blowgun ,whatever.
Each month someone will be the best shot. After 6 month whoever "won" the most will get a prize.
It's fun, come along and give it a try.

John thanks for hosting and offering a prize.
What a great day to be outside.

Spyder

LGM has it.  When we were just trying to get some interest, we dabbled with different ideas, and our first shoot was a can shoot, with air guns.  the next one was with some small animal targets, then the third was with the Sling shot target I made up a couple of years ago.

If you go over to the firearms section, the targets are all posted there.

My thought is to have some hand gun shoots, I would like an archery target at least one time, and I tried to get some interest in sling shot competition but that never happened. There will be a black powder shoot.

I will try to come up with something interesting for everyone.

Here's something to consider, too.....I know we have members with kids and even members without kids who are owners of the old style smoothbore Daisy Red Ryder-type BB guns.  The Florida contingent, especially, have been having a ball shooting these things at their camping get-togethers.  Hushnel even has a custom Red Ryder model that he glamorized....I remember seeing it!   I like sitting out on my deck and trying to pick off the grasshoppers that attack Heather's flowers.......it's what I do when she tells me to make myself useful. :-\

I'd even enter this one!  The official muzzle-to-target distance is only 1 rod or 16.5 feet!  Less than the length of my deck......handy for when the 'hoppers are out of season or I have already reached the daily bag limit. :spider:

I Like it..!!!

I do not have a Red Ryder, but anything that will shoot steel air rifle shot would be pretty comparable, as far as accuracy, in fact the smooth bore guns a close range probably shoot better than a rifled barrel shooting B.Bs

I shot a postal match on one of the air gun forums using my old Crosman .177 pistol and BBs., a challenge that..!

If someone has the rules and targets, let me know.  If we get enough interest we can do a couple of shoots a month.

I can see a percussion revolver match in the offing as well.. >:D

There's an official 16.5' BB gun target that can be copied in my post #4 and a PDF of the official NRA rules below this post for a VERY formal match, but I don't think we need to get that crazy.   It does have some good suggestions, though....

Viewed the targets and the rules, and I believe we could use some variation.

 I agree on the needed variation in the rules (I included them just to show how the Boy Scouts, 4H and NRA run the national competitions for kids), but it was the TARGET that I thought we should use.  It is the correct size for best accuracy & DESIGNED for smoothbore BB guns at the official distance of only 16.5'.....it's easy to see over the crude iron sights of the simplest guns like the Red Ryder, a simple-to-score ring-type target AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, it's more likely to attract those shooters who don't have the time, inclination or bluebird weather conditions in the time slot they have available to shoot.  Heck, most people could shoot the entire course of fire any time, even in their living room from their Lazy Boy during commercial breaks......maybe TWICE! :coffee:   Might be just the thing to get participation from everyone, KIDS INCLUDED......plus it's the perfect opportunity to employ the seldom-applied K.I.S.S. principle! :P

I think we can run two shoots, doesn't sound quite grammatically correct but who am I to care..??

I am putting the "tentative" B.B rules over in the fire arms projectile "area .

So look over there. j

I'll see if I can finger out how to print the proper size for the Red Ryder target.  If not,  maybe I can find some in town to buy.

Max

If you go into printer "set up" it should show you the size of your target and you can correct the size there before you print..

Thanks.  Right now all I have for pre-printed targets are zombies and terrorists.

...I'm so mature.

Just realized my target is 2.62" a little smaller then the 2.82"standard. I am going to just use it as is.
