HOLIDAY GIFT EXCHANGE 2014!!!!!!
« on: November 11, 2014, 06:13:46 PM »
Hello, Everybody!  The Holidays are coming up and I thought it would be a great idea to have Holiday Gift Exchange for 2014.  We did one last year and it seamed to be a pretty fun event.

To partake all you have to do is post what you would like to receive.  Other member's will see what your "wish" is and will PM you about giving you your "wish".

It is asked that you post a "wish" only once.  It's ok to make an either or "wish" (For example, hey I would be happy to be gifted this or that).  However, you can grant a "wish" more than once.  Once a "wish" is granted, it is asked that you, please, let me know so that I can take you off the "wish list".  I will keep track of the wish list in post #1.  Posting photos of your received "wish" is highly encouraged!

Note:  No wishing for anything that may be illegal to traffic over state lines, i.e. guns, alcohol, dope etc.

Note:  Not everyone wishing may get their wish granted.  It would be nice but, unfortunately, it is not a perfect world.  Although, I am sure our members will do their best to grant all the "wishes".

I'll play along this year Matt.  Great idea. I've been going through my stuff for two days and need to lose some stuff I never use.  Hope somebody wishes for something like that from me.

I wish I had a little 2 or 3 blade pocket knife for casual carving.  A little wear and patina doesn't bother me a bit.
At least it's not a femur through the pelvis.

Awesome idea.  I participated in something like this over at the other bushcraft forum last year.  We also did a Secret Santa thing too.  Both were equally fun.

My wish:  I wish for a crooked/spoon knife.  Production, custom, self made...doesn't matter.  I'd love to start doing spoons, kuksas and what not.

My wish would be a knife of some sort, I've always loved antler/bone handled knives, but  I'm a fan if any decent blade, always been a fixed blade guy but I value a good folder

I have the water bottle for tunnelvision and sent him a PM.

I would like to ask for a sample of a quality blade. 01 tool or 1095? I want something to see the quality over my other knives. Perhaps I will see the usefulness and go for a big money blade. I can put a handle on if anyone has a blank kicking around. I can sharpen it too.

Sorry for the delay in updating.  Computer broke and I was lucky enough to get an early Xmas gift of a new computer.  I was running Windows XP and now I have Windows 8.  I like it but I need to get the hang of it.

Hi, I would love to participate and hope to be able to fulfill someone's wish. Nothing posted to this point is in my possession.

My wish is for a set of suspenders with button hooks to attach to the pair of wool pants I just bought. Not looking for the clip type, just the old fashioned leather loop type, I can pay the freight to Toronto. Thanks a lot.

Oh go on and get your wish out there, 'tis the season.
Upon this a question arises: whether it be better to be loved than feared or feared than loved? One should wish to be both, but, because it is difficult to unite them in one person, it is much safer to be feared than loved.

Wannabe,

I may still have a pair of the old style button suspenders . ( BTW... I was raised hearing them called, "galluses" many times , rather than "suspenders". LOL) This pair were given to me by a friend , & he'd only worn them a few times, & I haven't worn them yet, so they are in excellent condition if I remember right. Don't use suspenders much regularly, with the exception of wearing my tool-belts to help carry the load. Although, when I do wear them, it is usually the clip-on style.

I would be happy to send them to ya, if I can find them and you would like them. I will look today/tomorrow to see if I can locate them in my gear. I can take a pic or two, post them up to show ya & see if they will do for ya.
:)

Anyway, I will look & see.
I love being out in the woods!   I like this quote from Mors Kochanski - "The more you know, the less you carry". I believe in the same creed, & think  "Knowledge & honed skills" are the best things to carry with ya when you're out in the wilds. They're the ultimate "ultralight" gear! ;)

Thanks so much, please do post a pic or 2 as I have never worn braces and want to have a look to see if the buttons are the same configuration as the pants are set up to take. Or are they universal? In any case, thanks a bunch for the offer. You can PM or post the pics here, no rush whatsoever.

I have given this some thought, since you guys asked. I know what I want to give, and I hope that someone will ask for it. However, I still want to be able to gift someone something this year, so I'll keep following this thread to see what I can do.

As far as my wish goes, I wish for a nice cap, in green or earth tones, with a big old USA flag on it!  I'd like something (ie, the cap) from someone here that I could incorporate into my kit, and take to the bush with me. i'd like something that I can't get up here. Something authentically American. By the way, I have a massive cranium.

The reason I'd want this (besides being fairly cheap to ship, I think) is because this place, with its generous and kind hearted people, has really helped re-shape my image of my American friends. I consider many of you my friends, and I would love to be able to have something from an American brother... or sister! (Let's not forget the women folk...)

Again, I hope to return the favour.

I'd like something from someone here that I could incorporate into my kit, and take to the bush with me. i'd like something that I can't get up here.

Do you need a firesteel? A tin of sorts? I've never sent something to Cannukia, do why not start now.
Sorry about that, my post was kind of confusing, I realize now... I edited it a bit. The thing for my kit I was referring to was the US cap I was talking about... Thanks for your offer, though! I've got firesteels and tins galore, thanks. :)

But again, my primary aim here is to be able to give a gift; not get one! :)

What if you woke up today, with only the things you thanked God for yesterday?

Maybe pick a random member in the gift exchange and send it to them? An don't feel bad or anything my friend, One of the best feelings in the world is knowing you brought someone else just a little happiness, so by somebody granting your wish they probably feel very good :) besides it's not like you wished for something expensive, it was a humble wish and one that was happily granted (if I read the above posts correct) by Mr. Chaos. So Merry Christmas!

Thanks so much, please do post a pic or 2 as I have never worn braces and want to have a look to see if the buttons are the same configuration as the pants are set up to take. Or are they universal? In any case, thanks a bunch for the offer. You can PM or post the pics here, no rush whatsoever.

Wannabe,

Here are some pics:

Closeups of the ends:

The ends that go to the back are single button & the ends at the front are for double button, or in the case of a single button front, you can just slip both ends of the leather "spreaders" over one button. Or,you can disconnect the front ends by undoing the snaps that hold the "spreaders" and put your own homemade, or purchased single button ends on the front straps.

When I pulled these out of the bag that the suspenders were given to me in, I saw that there was something "gummy" on one of the ends that has the "spreaders". I tried wiping the stuff off, and got most of the stuff off, but not all of it. I don't have any idea what the stuff is, or what to use to remove the remaining gunk, but I got most of it just by wiping. I can't ask the feller that gave them to me what it might be, because he has passed on". It almost looks & feels like some kind of wax, or something.

Regardless, they are still in excellent condition, if ever even worn, & are certainly serviceable, even if they were not cleaned any more than what little I did. I just wanted you to be aware of that info, if it had any impact on your deciding if you want them. If ya felt it necessary, I am sure with a little more effort & with the right cleanser, they would seem brand new out of a box. Personally, I would wear them as they are, since I am always getting into dirt & stuff anyway.. I'd wait until they "really" needed a cleaning...LOL

Anyway, If you would like them PM me your mail address & I will get them shipped off. If not, just say so here & I will offer them to someone else who might want to use them. Hopefully they fit your wants & be an Xmas gift for ya.
:)

And now that it's all arranged, I'm gifting Chief Big Knife his knife.

I came home today to a package from greyhound352. Whoopie slings and some bonus soft shackles for my hammock! :)

I wish it weren't so wet and cold outside or I'd go try 'em right now. Thanks, Greyhound, for sharing your skills and amsteel. As soon as I get a chance I'll hang the hammock and get some shots. Much appreciated, sir!

I guess I forgot to back some Florida weather with the slings. These 64 degree morning lows are awful. LOL

Oh, if only you could! It's been nasty here all day. :(

These are really well done, btw. Thanks, again. :)

Nice guys!  Anyone care to update the list?  Any new wishes?

If it's no trouble, I'd like to change my wish. Instead of a Desert Storm style canteen stove, I'm looking for and wishing for a USGI  surplus buttpack in woodland camo for the lbe I found in a thrift store. Most of the ones I've seen in my area (50 miles) are in ratty shape, and with a near new price :(.

Keeping my eyes on the thread, hoping to grant someone's wish!
