I am going to move this to the admin announcements section.
Here is the entire story as it has unfolded over the past couple of weeks.
Just before Christmas, a hacking attack on one of the other websites on our shared server caused some outages for us. That issue was resolved, and then we had relatively smooth sailing for a couple of weeks.
Fast forward to 2 days ago, we began experiencing outages again. This time it had to do with the database structure. The forum host was in the process of repairing and reorganizing the databases of ALL of the fora on the server.
They informed me that our forum software was out of date, so they upgraded it to the latest version. After that, some of the modifications to the software (which enable some of the unique features we use on our forum) became incompatible with the new version. New versions of those modifications were installed, and then a few bug fixes were necessary.
It appears that everything should be back to normal today.
If you are experiencing difficulty accessing the forum, the first thing to check is if it is down for everyone or just you.
http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/Go to the link above and type in, "bladesandbushlore.c
om" then click the "or just me" link. This will tell you right away if the entire site is experiencing trouble or if the outage is specific to your computer or network. I use that service to check whenever I can't access the forum. More often than not, the problem is "just me"... an issue with my internet provider and not the forum.
And as always, if you do have any issues with forum performance, let me know and I will do whatever I can to get things fixed.
I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you guys. This forum is my "home" online as well and I know how frustrating it can be to be disconnected from other members. Fortunately, this necessary upgrade should improve performance in the long run and we should be good for a while (until we need to do another upgrade).
In the past, these events were easier to plan for, but with forum growth (database size) and the increasingly complex interactions between the forum software and things like tapatalk, for example, I have to rely on the host service to help make these changes, and they have their own schedule.
Thanks for your patience and understanding!
