A few days ago we experienced some problems as well.

Our site is on a shared server, and one of the other websites on the server was the victim of a hack. Because of this, our service was interrupted as well. I suspect this is the same issue affecting us again.

We haven't outgrown our shared server yet but if this trend continues I will have to look into other options for more consistent service. The occasional temporary outage isn't a big deal, but frequent extended outages are no fun for any of us.

I've sent another email to the host to see if they have any new information on when they expect this will be resolved.

Had one hiccup this morning trying to post from the reply button at top of page but the quick reply at the bottom of the page worked fine.

I view the forum with the last reply first so I'm always using yhe reply button at top.

This is the response I got from the host today. Nothing about a hack attack this time.

Quote

Hello, We understand the concern. The techs were able to successfully restore the database tables last night. Some of the forums go back over 10 years and there are a lot of upgrades along the way, after recently upgrading to the latest MySQL, something went wrong and required an emergency rebuild of some of the database tables. We had several techs working on it and luckily were able to save all the data. We also have backups and backups of backups, but in this case we are able to save everything without resorting to backup. Now that the tables are a rebuilt, they are all in a more modern structure now so this issue should not reoccur. Of course no provider has 100 percent uptime but we take prompt and preventative measures when issues do arise.

That's weird.  I checked in 4-5 times today to check on the 'action' and was able to access everything just fine.  The fact that there were very few new postings is obvious now.....I was the only one here! :'(

I had a bit of a hard time getting in here since about 2AM CST. I ended up going out to the woods later in the morning to enjoy the warmer January temps, before the blizzards & cold front moves in...

Went out again this afternoon, not knowing if I could get into here...

Happy to be able to get in here now, but damnn sure happy to get some outdoors time before it gets mighty frigid around these parts this coming days...

Perhaps other folks might find it enjoyable to go & get outside and do some Woodsy stuff,  if you can't get your inside "B&B" fix.  LOL ;D

See ya out there ,in the sticks. :D

BTW...Problems posting??...yup... got some problems posting today...

When I posted that I got in up above I went to another thread and was told the site was under maintenance and I was again unable to go anywhere or get back on until just now.  All my custom settings are gone too which is no problem but this must have been a heck of an attack or crash of some kind.

I had a double banner all day, with the lower one displaying a data base error message.  It also said if I could see the error message, to contact the administrator.  Well HOW IN THE HELL are you supposed to do that when you can't access the SITE? ???  Seems stupid to me.  Kinda like telling someone, "raise your hand if you can't hear me"....

Glad it's working again finally!

Yeah, mine defaulted to the 'Green Bean' setting instead of the 'Concrete' that I have to use due to some glitch in that mode.  When in GB, everything goes into a single long column with VERY small letters that I can barely see. :-\

I had the exact same message...

I know there is a Facebook group, which although I am not on FB I could read the messages being posted, that's one option for if there is a next time, the other is to have the Admins email addy ( which thankfully I did )

I think I may get a few email addresses as well from some folks on the Forum to be able to communicate, as another option as well.... if anyone wants mine send me a pm...

Had that happen to me too, Dano, but I just logged in to see the rest of the B&B site. Didn't try to post until about now & so I dont know if things are better yet or not ..

Gonna keep the fingers still  now & see if tings get better. I don't have much to share anyway, I figure. Other than hope folks get outside to enjoy a bit, before it gets dangerous cold to be out there.

 ;)

BE safe!

Ok it looks like the worst of it is over, but there are a couple of forum features that weren't compatible with the changes they made. There are new versions of the features that will be available soon.

This might require one more temporary interruption and then we should be back up and running again. Not sure when that interruption will occur but I expect it will be some time in the coming week and should be relatively brief.

I am going to move this to the admin announcements section.

Here is the entire story as it has unfolded over the past couple of weeks.

Just before Christmas, a hacking attack on one of the other websites on our shared server caused some outages for us. That issue was resolved, and then we had relatively smooth sailing for a couple of weeks.

Fast forward to 2 days ago, we began experiencing outages again. This time it had to do with the database structure. The forum host was in the process of repairing and reorganizing the databases of ALL of the fora on the server.

They informed me that our forum software was out of date, so they upgraded it to the latest version. After that, some of the modifications to the software (which enable some of the unique features we use on our forum) became incompatible with the new version. New versions of those modifications were installed, and then a few bug fixes were necessary.

It appears that everything should be back to normal today.

If you are experiencing difficulty accessing the forum, the first thing to check is if it is down for everyone or just you.

http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/

Go to the link above and type in, "bladesandbushlore.c om" then click the "or just me" link. This will tell you right away if the entire site is experiencing trouble or if the outage is specific to your computer or network. I use that service to check whenever I can't access the forum. More often than not, the problem is "just me"... an issue with my internet provider and not the forum.

And as always, if you do have any issues with forum performance, let me know and I will do whatever I can to get things fixed.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you guys. This forum is my "home" online as well and I know how frustrating it can be to be disconnected from other members. Fortunately, this necessary upgrade should improve performance in the long run and we should be good for a while (until we need to do another upgrade).

In the past, these events were easier to plan for, but with forum growth (database size) and the increasingly complex interactions between the forum software and things like tapatalk, for example, I have to rely on the host service to help make these changes, and they have their own schedule.

Thanks for your patience and understanding!

PW for Prime Minister!!!

Thanks for the deets, PW. Good to know what's going on when we can't log on and harass our friends! Man, I almost had to do some real life stuff... Fortunately, I stumbled upon something called "Youtube" and got my fix there!

(I jest.)

But thanks again for taking care of it.

Old thread, recurring problem that has just started again.
The Site/Forum is lagging for me to the point where entering text is labor intensive. Echoing the text typed takes 2-3 seconds, and then everything in the buffer spills out at once. It's taken me over 3 minutes to type this post alone.
Anyone else having this issue? It's only been doing it today, since this morning.

I have no problems staying connected...it's the lagging while texting that's driving me nuts.  I'll have to start doing like I did the last time this happened, and compose off line, then upload.
