Semi Skinner by Tim Olt

Tim out of Michigan is one of my 'go to' makers.   He had a sheet of M4 steel, and I wanted a new knife.  He made me this semi skinner.  The M4 is 5/32.  Blade is 4 inches long.   Bevel, flats and swedge are perfect.  Scales are dyed camel bone.   I love it.   :)

M4 is new to me.   This is my first exposure.  It's by Carpenter.  This is what they say about it

I will be using this to process dead hogs.   The mud and dirt in their fur really tears up knives.   This should work well in that application

That's a sweet one Sam. Blade sure looks larger than 4". I had a blade of cpm M4 it held a good edge. But I lost it. >:(

No, it was a Spyderco folder Craig. I was wearing some thin fishing pants while riding the mower. Look the yard over for weeks.

how time flies.   I got another skinner from Tim Olt today.  this one is the same M4 steel,  but the blade is longer,  5 inches, and it has the same dyed/stabilized camel bone scales.

both are M4 steel at 64 RC.  The shorter blade is of 3/16th stock.  The longer is 1/8th stock.  They are sharpened at a 20 degree bevel.

Nice looking knives.  You won't be doing much sharpening given that RC I would think.

20 degrees or 21 degrees on the bevel?
