Thanksgiving

 Well folks, Turkey day is only a few weeks away, my family has started making it's plans for one of our most popular get together of the year, I'm wondering if the last few years of pandemics, shortages of goods and groceries, the crazy rising in costs of energy, gasoline, and food has put a damper on this Thanks Giving Day holiday celebration, I've been reading that Turkeys are going to be in short supply this holiday season, and of what are on super market refrigerated shelves will be priced sky high.
 One article claimed that the cost last year of the average family Holiday meal was between $100.00 and $250.00 depending on the number of people being served, this 2022 holiday season holiday family celebration meal is predicted to be about 50% higher, that's going to be hard on those folks that host these get togethers, especially those with large families.
 My wife and I have seven children, all grown, all with their own households and still growing, we used to host the big four family holidays, but being retired and on a fixed income we had to make adjustments back about ten years ago, we still hold our get togethers but now one or the other of our kids take turns opening their homes for those celebrations and we all bring something to add to the table, sort of pot luck, and it's been working out wonderfully, everyone pitches in on the clean up which makes the work part of the day quick and easy on everyone, especially the host of the celebration.
 As far as Giving thanks considering all that's happened in our lives and in our beloved country over the last few years most folks probably find they have to dig deeper to give thanks, but in retrospect we have allot to be thankful for, and we pray for those folks who have not been as fortunate

Not as large a family and  we're spread out but we get together for turkey day as well.  Expect it all to be more expensive but don't know by how much. We make everything from scratch and the usual ingredients are not crazy more expensive.  Locally there seems to be plenty of Turkeys already and not that much pricier than last year.  I guess we'll see ho it shakes out but we're  doing it regardless   I'm resigned to taking a  bruising  on the road trip  but it's family so don't really care.

Hoping all enjoy good times wherever you are and whomever you're with.

Is talking about Thanksgiving this early like Christmas supplies filling store shelves in July?

 Is three weeks away too early, I suppose for some folks it might be, but for others there are travel plans to be made,
hotels to be booked, for others who having to travel is not a problem there are menus to be planed, food to purchased, seating arrangements to be figured out, in our case there's usually 20~25 people to seat, feed, and entertain, that's allot of work for the host and hostess.
 My wife and I used to host all the holiday get togethers, now that the kids are all grown and have their own families we have moved to a smaller home, one that would be cramped for such a crowd, luckily our youngest daughter and her husband have big house with an open floorplan that is well suited to such parties, they have been hosting most family events for the last few years.
 Folding tables and chairs work great and store away neatly, but they do take work to set up, they also take care of the turkey, the rest of us bring the other treats such as salad, sides, and desert, then help with the clean up, it's all pretty organized and no one has to work too hard or suffer allot of expense.
 But, it does take time, when you're deciding amongst 20 people who is going to bring what, what time most people are going to arrive, what time do we sit down to eat, your looking at about a week of just ironing out those issues, I don't think 14 days is too much time to get our individual ends together.

 All is good Crash, whether you were kidding me or not doesn't matter, that's what men do, I'd feel like I have body odor if my friends didn't rag on me once in a while, plus, not all of us have to live under the same family obligations as others, I know a few people that have little to no family and to them the holidays are just another day off to catch up on the laundry.
 For my family the holidays are just one more opportunity to set aside the problems of life and spend time with folks who care for you and who you care for deeply, when I was younger the holidays were fun days, today at this stage of my life they mean so much more.
 Happy holiday season to you and yours my friend.
