More landscapes. I think landscapes are my favorite. Anyhow, the sun was setting and we had some great clouds out there.

Nice, I think that those types of landscapes lend themselves particularly well to the HDR treatment. I like both shots but especially the 2nd as it really captures that Big Sky country feeling.

The highlights are a little blown out in the lower left of the sky in that picture. I might load up the three exposures again and see if I can bring out the detail there while preserving the feel of the picture.

OK, here it is after the edit. I guess photomatix pro has the ability to select portions of an image independently and replace them with any of the three exposures you load into the software. So instead of a blend, I selected the area with the blown out highlights and replaced that part of the picture with the -2 stops exposure, which preserved the highlights details. Then processed the pic through the software again. It will have a slightly different look from the first version I posted because I didn't save the tone mapping setting between pictures.

Thats a cool feature to be able to get rid of an overblown area and not have it effect the lighting and detail around that area. I think I'll probably end up grabbin the Pro version in the near future.

Yeah it is a polygonal lasso selection tool that I used. Seems to have worked well for replacing that part of the picture. I have had the light version for a couple of years but the pro version is definitely more capable. If you upgrade do a search because there are a lot of sites offering a 15 percent coupon code, plus they will credit you what you spent on the light version. I ended up paying only 51 bucks for pro.

I've been shooting mostly film recently because I'm in a darkroom photography class at school, but most of my outdoor shots are still digital. Here's a couple from the past few months

Some balsam root growing on some ridgetop habitat I was surveying for work, near The Dalles, OR

Two buddies emerging from a rock fissure that opens out into a climbing area in Vantage, WA

Sunrise over Steens Mtn, in SE Oregon, where my Regional Biology class was camped for the night

Looking like a great little thread for photos guys. Here's a few so far. I mostly do portraits and weddings but nature and wildlife photos keep me sane.

No post processing (except RAW to JPG). This sunset was "as shot" in Point Au Baril, Ontario during a camping trip last year.

This was shot on slide film back in the day. Canmore, Alberta

I thought I was seriously the last photog to switch to digital. I shoot my digital cameras just like I did my medium format and old 35mm equipment. I remember the biggest thing to wrap my head around when I made the switch was how important white balance was. I miss my 645 format!! $:-\$

I'll never be able to afford a DSLR that can do what I want to do. Shooting 35mm is almost as cost prohibitive now, too. I'll just muddle along, and pine for the "good ol' days".

Oh I think you can find some great deals on used digital equipment. Heck, without getting into the whole megapixel race, 10-12MP is more than enough. The only advantage over film is the convenience. Long live film!!

I'm working with 2 cameras, both with 7.1 MP. Not real thrilled with the Olympus, other than its underwater capability.

Great pics! The background blur on the hummingbird shot is fantastic. Did you shoot at that aspect ratio or crop to 1:1?

That's cropped to however it looks there. Yeah I love the blur too. I'm a huge fan of bokeh, nice creamy bokeh and that lens does it well

Same lens here for this lioness at the Toronto zoo this summer.

Depending on my shutter speed. I like to use the 1/focal length rule if handheld shooting because I find tripods restrictive for most scenarios. The shirt answer would be that I hardly use the tripod

. 300mm at the zoo I use a monopod and always employ proper photo taking skills like breathing control, soft shutter release and getting as stable as I can. 50mm? Never use a tripod.

One of my favorite treatments of natural subjects in the "draped water" effect exemplified by David Muench, and others who followed. Unfortunately, my stupid little point-n-shoot digitals can't handle it.

OP, you might try a neutral density filter (even if you have to tape it to the camera) and set the lowest ISO speed to fool your cameras into taking a longer exposure. That might let you squeeze a little blur out of them.

That's a possibility I have a set of Cokin filters for artsy-fartsy effects I might try with the digital. I just need to get out in the field around some photogenic water. All work and no play.....<sigh>
