Caves in Aliso and Wood Canyons Park, here in OC. The whole park has caves and water-formed rocks. It was under the sea way back when. When they built one of the toll roads in that area, crews discovered a giant whale fossil.

I didn't get too close, for fear of sleestacks. LOL.

Took another HDR to play with. I got a new "bridge" camera after discussing them so much.

I have been enjoying the auto exposure bracketing feature which makes HDR much easier than having to adjust the exposure compensation for each shot like with my point and shoot cameras.

I hope to be back on my feet by next weekend, though.

Thanks Zam! This was another HDR but I was shooting for a much more subtle effect. There are a lot of opportunities for pictures out at those abandoned mine and railroad buildings.

On another note, we will be getting some snow here this coming weekend if the weather man is right, so that opens up a lot of new picture opportunities as well.

You achieved it nicely, didn't overcook it at all...look forward to more of your HDR experiments. I remember what you said you were using for stitches but what software did you use for the HDR?

I used an older, dumbed down version of photomatix called "photomatix light". They now call it something else, but its still about $36. I am considering springing for the $99 to get the full fledged photomatix.

I think there is a special version of photoshop (lightroom?) That allows you to do this easily.

I think what most folks do is take the layers and dtack them, then alter their transparency selectively to allow the lighter exposures to be seen in shadowy areas, and thendarker exposurss to be seen in the blown out highlights. Still dedicated software can do in seconds what it would take hours to do manually and probably weeks to learn.

Yep, I've got the old free version of Photomatix as well, havn't played around with HDR in awhile but I may just give it another go, thanks

Yeah the free version is good to see if you like the software, but it puts a watermark on the pictures.

Still learning with my SLR but took these today at a new Nature Preserve their starting not far from the house. Turning a very important archilogical site from orange grove back to it's natural waterfront to sandhill ridge. They have found pottery dating back 10,000 years on this site. It was a long term village back then. Oh guess how big that Gator was judging the fact thats a Great Blue Heron standing on his head!

First I've seen in person Wolfy. I watched forever hoping I was gonna get a NatGeo moment! They were so far out that my 70x135 zoom was having trouble. That's why I B&W'ed it. I'm going back in the am to catch the sunrise if they have the gate open early enough. This is the 3rd largest lake in Fl. It goes into the same system that we all camped in a few weeks ago. But it's away's away.

More silly fun with HDR. I know this is way over the top. The shot is a parking lot at an outlet mall. Really uninteresting composition and subject matter. The only thing that makes it interesting is the surreal HDR processing. imagine if I got a good looking shot with this effect!

Anyhow I just clamped my camera to the window of the car for the shot.

No, this is not a computer generated fractal image.
It is an imaged formed by the frost on our front window last winter.
It's quite interesting to find out what different people see when they look at it.

Nope its digital sepia toned and antiqued. I also dulled the contrast just a tad before doing the other two processes.

Those white lines in the antiqued version aren't in the original color photo. I hadn't seen the original until Zammer mentioned it. That's what made me think of an old photo being scanned. Looks sort of like you see scratches on an old print. Was that intentional? Part of the software's "antiquing" process? Nice touch!
