Wild West Alaska
« on: January 14, 2013, 07:20:28 AM »

OP warned me about this new show that aired last night on the Animal Planet network,  did anyone else here see it ?
In checking my program guide it reads young Mom gets to learn some basic survival skills on Kodiak Island,  so I assumed (I know, I know) that it was going to be a show about basic wilderness living and skills,  well in a small way it was,  but in a bigger way it's just another American Guns and Red jacket Arms wrapped in a new paper.
My view,  yes it was entertaining (first episode),  it had it's fun moments (shooting match between the fluff and her loud mouth boss),  and some drama (actual deer hunt on Kodiak Island and the real threat of huge Browns).
All and all,  I'll probably watch it again just to reinforce my opinion that it's not anything more than the same old same old,  I am disappointed in the content,  but that's my bad for expecting more.

  What's your take ?

I missed it but will try to catch it next time. I remember seeing the commercial on it last week but the day and time got lost in my file cabinet upstairs.

Moe, have you seen the "Coast Gaurd Alaska" show on the Weather Channel?   That one sure gives folks something to think on for dire scenerio's.   Its from the Coast Gaurds perspective and what it takes for life savers to do their jobs.

On particularly rough days when I'm sure I can't possibly endure, I like to remind myself that my track record for getting through bad days so far is 100% and that's pretty good.

Well,  not to sound like a dirty old man,  but that deer hunting mom they built the rifle for,  and even guided on the island wasn't bad to look at, they could have made the whole hour about her and I wouldn't have complained.   :)
I wonder if she's related to Sarah Palin,  she certainly wasn't afraid of that .338,  and she didn't look all runny eyed over that big brown,  now that pizza delivery hippy looked a bit unsteady with the S&W .500,  it looked like he was about to put an eye out with it.
