If you are not aware of Paul Campbell you are missing 3 great books , the man was a true master of the skills going deeper than anyone I know of.

"Survival Skills of Native Californians " this book was personally researched and is a classic . The skills he writes about can be put to use almost anywhere.
"Earth pigments and paints of the California Indians " he took most of the pictures , one of he most beautiful books you will ever see along with the info is amazing. I was lucky enough to make many trips with Paul as he researched this book , just reading the long captions is a lesson. His last book is like nothing you have ever read. "The Universal Tool Kit" .. about the use of rocks,  pre flintknapping and shows and tells you how to make anything with rocks.. And he did so .. at his house he has a small room that is like a mini museum . I also got to travel with  him on his search for how these things really worked . He was a perfectionist

a true genius .. who was so humble about his skill sets , at his classes you knew you were at the feet of a master. a real gentleman and kind man

Iam proud he was my friend .. he died this morning at 5:26 am , got the phone call from his wife at 6am.. he had a brain tumor ..

Sad to see such a vital man pass .. he was a former Marine and a 'nam vet Semper fi

 RIP

 Dude

This has been a hard year for the Rabbit Stick- Winter Count family. We lost Joe Dabill in March, and now Paul. They were both masters of the skills, and both damm nice guys.

Matt , you've got that right.. both men were the best.. and would astound you with their skills by example , no phoney junk .. no pretense from either man at all.

They both are greatly missed .. Paul Campbell's books belong on every book shelf  of any who practice the skills you will be amazed at the depth of knowledge and you get a great sense of the man. he taught at Rabbit Stick and Wintercount and Dirttime for every event plus a lot of other places.
