Solstice 2021
« on: December 20, 2021, 11:29:55 AM »
Tomorrow, 12/21, is the Winter Solstice; the observance of which pre dates existing organized religions by millennia. Observed by many generations in many diverse ways, most folks in European traditions  today are most familiar with the ancient Celtic (or recently reinterpreted Victorian) ways.

Bonfires, feasting and socializing, even modest gift exchange has come down to us over a very long time. Often overlain by and incorporated in much later religious dogma, the roots of the original observances are always evident.

The " longest night of the year" is always a good time for reflection and introspection. Especially during these times. As we move into the new annual cycle and the year unfolds it might be worthwhile to not only consider what we have allowed but how we can peacefully and with comity do better for ourselves and those who will follow.

While that can be said of most years it seems especially necessary today.

Solstice Greetings to all

The old year end based on astronomy is upon us. During this time of celebration and reflection I wish everyone the best of all life has to offer and hope we can come together to work for a better nation and world.
