Title: Adirondack Fire Tower Hike
Post by: mneedham on December 05, 2015, 04:12:25 PM
My scouts and I have started the ADK Firetower Challenge.  Today we hiked a tower in the Southern Adirondacks, the snow melted off as we were climbing, just beautiful!

Hope you don't mind a couple more questions, but did you consider that to be a good turnout and did you work on any skills such as map/compass or the like?

Outstanding! 15 kids outside together at one time is a win. Was a beautifully cool day done here too.

Vistas like that are balm for a ragged soul.

Good on you for getting them up there and back again.

Yeah - It was good, some of my scouts were at Rensselaer Polytechnic today working on their Nuclear Science merit badge.  We always do skills training on outings, geology today...

Outstanding!!  Getting that many kids together can be really tough, so great job on that!  Looks like great scenery to help make the hike go a lot easier too.  Great job!!

LOL - Its hard to use gadgets in the ADKs in general, but we have rules about gadgets!

Thanks for sharing the pics of your trip. Much different terrain than what we have down here.

A big pat on the shoulder for working with the scouts, I'm sure they had a blast! Memories they will have for a lifetime.

Nuclear Science Merit Badge?  Wow.  Is this the one where you rub two atoms together and incinerate a city?

Man I wish I had places like that to go hiking close by. SE Kansas doesn't really have views like that.  Kansas does have some awesome scenery though so I don't complain to often. I just wish there were more state owned land that I could get on and just explore. Closest area like that is at least 30 min away and I work nights so it's hard to get to those locations when I want to.

We are really lucky, being centered between the ADKs, Catskills, Berkshires, and Taconic range...  No shortage of beauty..
