Title: Pendleton Field Coat
Post by: upthecreek on February 16, 2017, 05:32:32 PM
I've wanted a field jacket for some time. Don't need one. I've looked at a bunch of them and the Pendleton field coat is the one that caught my eye. I wanted wool and that drives the price up a bit. This one has been 300$ for a while and I told Karen the day they put in on sale half price I was going to buy it. Well guess what. 3 years later it was on 1/2 price and I bought it.

100% wool, lined shoulders and sleeves, 5 pocket front. Not fancy.

Plain ole back

Here is a little better pocket pic. I'm not a snap kinda guy but it works really well on the coat. It would suck if all the pocket had zippers. The pockets are big too. I can drop the handle to my dogs leash it one of the bottom no problem. Pockets from the side for your hands is a BIG plus.

I've had it 2 weeks and wear it everywhere but to work. Fits like a glove.

I hated that they met my price but I love this coat. If you find something you want always keep trying to get it. You never know.

I coveted one of those things that a friend of mine has for years.  I'm glad to hear that you got such a good deal on it.......might as well have the best! ;D

Looks like a very fine coat Creek.  Patience is a virtue I don't have.

Really nice coat!  You're not gonna let it relegate the great one you just made to the closet, are ya?

No way it can replace the blanket coat. The blanket coat it as warm as any I have ever had and I made it myself. I've been surprised how many comments I've gotten on the ole blanket coat. However, this one looks way more like who ever made it knew what they were doing.

That is nice.  Spending money is fine when you get what you pay for.  Half off sounds amazing.  No regrets on that one!

That's a cool story, I'm glad it finally worked out for you.  What I noticed in your picture, not only does it fit you well, but it "fit's" you well too, if you know what I mean....like it was meant to be.  Cool story Creek!

Karen called me preppy the other night. Kinda put a bad taste in my mouth. That's not a look I've ever went for. Don't never really think about a "look". I really like the coat though.

It would be preppy if you wore those skinny legged pants, had a three day growth of fuzz and designer eyeglasses and had never in your life been in the woods.

It is a great coat.

I must confess, I am a card carrying preppy. I went to a college prep boarding school.

I like the style it is, makes me think of outdoor wear in the forties and fifties, not so much preppy, but definitely something a preppy would wear.

Do you really think it's the best wolfy? I find that to be high praise.  It's well made. You can get cooler looking ones for sure and pay more as well. This one does not have an interior pocket. I might just sew one in.  8) Wool is where i put my faith for the long run. The fabric is a nice weave. This coat has nothing for the blanket coat as long as my stitching stays true and the zipper keeps working.

I think its only competition in that style is the Filson single mackinaw coat.  They are both well made and of quality materials.  At the original $300 it would be tough to choose between them, at the price you paid the Pendleton wins hands down.

I would rather have your blanket coat though.

Since I got the pockets on the blanket coat it is bad ass. I'll do another review if we ever get some weather that's cold. Ya'll deserve it.

I don't know if it's the 'best' or not, but both Pendleton and Filson have the reputation and reside at the top in my book.  I used to wear those Pendleton shirts with the flaps covering the breast pockets......excell ent and very long-wearing!  You could pick them up around Christmas on sale for $16-$18 apiece, but those days are gone and I just can't make myself pay today's prices for them.  3-4 times the price for what I used to pay for a shirt that's ALMOST as good as it used to be is just too much for me to swallow.  That's what makes your new jacket such an excellent deal.......just like a broken drum, you can't beat it! ;D

You're right Wolfy.  I can't stand the price of new wool shirts.  I have two Pendletons, sort of medium weight, and they are still good as new and over twenty years old.  Thankfully I bought them too big for me at the time and can still wear them.

I don't see a thing pretty about it, other than maybe being prepared for the cold weather.  I think it's a darn awesome coat, wear it with pride!!

Very nice...... I am envious....amd a heck of a deal.

These were, and still are, one for the cream pf the crop of real "woods people"
Hunters , loggers , rangers, outdoor works of all kinds worn these ....warm and last a long time.

I inherited 2 Pendleton shirts for MF...or you could say I took them....
But the were were falling apart...so tossed them years ago..

He was a DNR Forest Ranger and wore the wool shirts in the winter as long as I could remember.

Funny to see the plaid patches on the elbow...his was home made tanned buckskin, after the elbows worn thru...

Enjoy.....

Wow, that is a really nice coat. I would consider myself extremely fortunate indeed to have found one (in my size) that was half off. Well done!  :)

Very nice UTC.  Great fit.  I love wool.  Please take picks of the blanket coat again if you dig it out this winter.  Still haven't sewn up mine.  I have used a Hudson bay with a blanket pin some.

Thanks man.  I cut out the patterns before I sent it back.  It's all in a air proof (mothproof) bag with the Hudson blanket waiting for the urge to sew.

Check your sleeve length before you cut. It was a tad short for me.

Ive been sporting my Filson single makinaw for nearly twenty years now...i regret not getting the double back when i had a steady job to afford it.
The pendleton is a fine coat and looks great as well...i used to practically live in a Pendleton 100 percent virgin wool shirt till i plum wore it out :-\
Broke my heart when it got all thread bare :'(
I really like your Blanket coat as well, nice...i mean really nice work
I have one i take out from time to time when the wind blows cold from the north...not nearly as nice as yours though...did i mention its really nice ???
