SOLD
For lack of a more inspired name, I'm just calling this my "new hunter". I got out to the shop to put the finishing touches on it, and etched my logo.
Specs are:
5/32" O1 tool steel
Desert ironwood scales
C360 brass bolsters
brass/stainless Loveless bolts
9" overall length
4.5" blade
Ok, I really like this knife/sheath combo. It's not intended to be a bushcraft or survival knife (I wouldn't baton with it). It's a hunting knife, designed for cutting animal flesh and skin. The thickness at the edge is made very thin, for ease of sharpening, and improved cutting performance. But that comes at the cost of less toughness vs. a knife like my Intrepid that has a thicker edge.
Anyhow, it will be hard to see this one go. I could be persuaded to part with it for $315 shipped to U.S. addresses. SOLD

I love it.

-
Thanks guys!
-
Did you hear that? That was the roar of the crowd cheering on a home-run slammed out of the park!!! Thats a Beautiful blade and the combination of materials really shines (pun intended), well done.
-
Thanks Sudz!
-
OMG!!! That's just ART!!! Red's probably drooling on it from Florida, as I'm doing the same from Illinois!
-
You finished that one up real well, very nice.
-
Beautiful work! I like the shape on this one and the natural sweep on the back. Very cool.

Thanks! :D
-
now all thats left is to try and convince PW to sell it to me instead of one of you!!! :P
great job PW, your skills progress with every build ;)
-
That is one fine looking blade, PW. I like the classic look it has. It definitely needs a leather sheath.
-
Thanks guys! :D
GB, I knew this one was going to get leather when I was sketching the profile. ;) It's not the sort of knife you'd want to wrap in plastic.
-
It's not the sort of knife you'd want to wrap in plastic.
That would be a huge injustice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Anybody ever tell you you do damn fine work? Nah, didn't think so...........
Absolutely sweet and fine blade there, PW!
-
Eye-candy of the first magnitude, PW! That photo that's the fourth up from the bottom is really unique.....a piece of artwork in craftsmanship and photography, both :hail:
-
Thanks guys!
Wolfy, I was going for a shot that would show off the high polish by reflecting the wood in the blade. It was pure luck that the reflected grain appears to flow into the grain of the handle. :)
-
Very Very nice PW. I really like that model, you should definitely keep it in the line up.
-
Wow, that's a great looking knife PW!!
It's cool how the reflection of the grain blended in that last shot, very nice!!
-
That's stunning!
-
Thanks everyone!
I've just finished the sheath for this knife.

Slick!!
-
looks AMAZING PW!!!! great tooling
-
Thanks man! I know you suggested a horizontal sheath but I just couldn't wrap my tired brain around the idea. :D
I like the way this turned out, though.
-
you are welcome to my pattern if you ever want to give one a go :D that one came out awesome though!! i wish i had the patience to sit there and do tooling like that.. but i get impatient and start rushing through and it never comes out right.
-
For me the tooling is the fun part. It's the stitching I could do without. Maybe I'll do one of those all rivet sheaths sometime soon...
-
wow, i expected it to be over $400.... great price man! ill give it a week, then i may just have to eat it :D
-
Thanks man! Yeah I haven't quite gotten there yet but one day maybe. :)
-
What everyone else said times a gazillion.
WOW, knife and sheath both.

This one is sold. We had company come stay with us last week and when they saw it in person they snatched it up right away. :)
I feel like it was my nicest build to date and I will miss seeing it on the shelf in the office. But it went to a good home.
I definitely want to revisit this design after I get the tools moved and set up at the new house.
-
thats got to be as pretty a knife as i ever did see...great job on that one...the sheath is beauttiful as well...woods
-
Thanks Woods, it was a fun build for sure. Took a lot of time to get the grinds symmetrical but it was worth it. I definitely want to revisit this design but use nickel silver and stainless hardware.

I've used that combination with ivory micarta before. It's a striking look, but more difficult to polish, it seemed to me
-
Stainless will definitely use up more belts than brass. The nickel silver is essentially white brass, so it works pretty easy. The stainless won't scratch as easily though. But peening the rivets in stainless will be more of a chore as well.
-
The polishing of the ivory micarta and getting black polishing compound residue out of micro-scratches in it was the REAL PITA!
-
Ah, yeah I can imagine! I have had good results removing waxy stuff with ronsonol lighter fluid. I no longer smoke but I still have a bottle of the lighter fluid around to use as a quick de-greaser/solvent. Works great for removing the glue left behind by price tags, tape and stickers.
-
That is one fine knife and sheath. The fit and finish is perfect! Awesome work!
-
I can't believe I haven't commented on this knife and sheath, PW becasue I know I've been here before. Excellent work!!!! Who ever got that knife should be very proud. I hope they skin a heap of deer or other big game with it. I know I would.
-
Thanks guys. :)
I think it was my best work to date.
