Post by: greyhound352 on September 22, 2012, 05:18:00 AM
Borrowed this one from facebook thought that it was a neat idea to share with the group. I haven't tried it yet so don't blame me if it don't work.

Now finally a legitimate use for that stuff. I wonder how long that will burn? Could be a fire hazard maybe? I wonder if the wick tips it would light the oil itself ?

I am going to have to experiment with this. try different containers. Maybe a water float style so the flame stays at a certain height always....

The Facebook page stated 45 days but it didn't state how long it was lit per day.

I would definitely put the shortening in a better container.  I wouldn't want to see what happens when the cardboard can started wicking the melted shortening and lit up itself.  But the concept seems sound, being that it's basically vegetable tallow, rather than animal tallow.

Thanks for the post.  I will have to find a small container to get some lard in my kit.
