Made our annual sojourn to the mountains.  It was wonderful.

Wow, gorgeous shots. I hope the leaves are still turning when we visit in a few weeks.

They were just starting while we were there (a lot of rain earlier).  Not sure about where you were going, but it was blowing about 40 during our last night there.  We left before first light, but I'll bet a lot of the leaves were down.

Nice shots, Crash.  Would you be willing to share your exposure data on the two waterfalls?

Awesome pictures!  Gorgeous!

Did you dayhike?  Or did you throw in some camping, too?

Northwest North Carolina.  The waterfall was in Virginia.

I tried several exposure settings - they all came out pretty good.  Exposures ranged from 2 seconds to 8 seconds.  Used a ND filter with all of them.

Day hikes.  We rented a cabin with a view.

Great pics, as usual!

Was in Cashiers, NC (elev. 3500 ft) a couple weeks ago.  The only leaves that had turned were dogwoods and a few maples were just starting.

Yeah, most people there said it was a disappointing leaf season due to all of the rain.  I thought it was wonderful.

What a beautiful set of photos.  Those blue ridges are just terrific.  That tree draping its roots over the rocks is really neat.

I am reading "Our Southern Highlanders" by Kephart at the moment.  The photos remind me of the country he describes in the book.  It is the area that he was in.

I just finished reading OSH about a month ago....figured it was required reading for anybody in possession of a Colclesser Brothers knife clone. ;D

While it has, so far, made no mention of the knife one thing stands out for me.  The language of the Highlanders is unique, colorful, and, at times, hilarious.  I have also gained a better understanding of the Whiskey Rebellion, excise taxes,  and the type of people the mountain people were (and maybe in some locales still are).

Those photos capture the beauty of the Southern Highlands about as well as any photos I've seen.
