Tarp tie outs using nyon patch material...
« on: October 08, 2015, 04:02:46 PM »
I am using a sample from wilderbeast of this sticky backed nylon repair. The thread is here.
http://bladesandbushlore.com/index.php?topic=11657.0

I cut a big circle and a 'butterfly" patch.

I stuck a square of nylon to the center so the cord didn't stick to the loop. Then I stuck the butterfly patch down on my tarp and put the big circle over it for reinforcement.

Not sure it's going to hold. I wanted to put a piece of pvc or maybe a small section from a Bic pen under it for strength but worried about the wear through my tarp over time. An suggestion for better reinforcement? Maybe a butterfly small plastic milk just piece with the patch over it ?

This is just a tie out to keep the tarp spread open a little after it's set up. There shouldn't be a lot of stress on it.

I'm actually interested in how this holds up, it is a novel use for the patch material.
Upon this a question arises: whether it be better to be loved than feared or feared than loved? One should wish to be both, but, because it is difficult to unite them in one person, it is much safer to be feared than loved.

Yeah if this holds up good this idea could really take off.  Good notion, i look forward to hearing how it does.

I just want to add an update. I thought the loop would tear out. It didn't even in the strong winds. The adhesive let go, The whole thing just came off the tarp.

I think it's because I handled it too much trying to get it situated in place. I also think the waterproofing of the walmart tarp may have been a factor.

For the record I'm surprised that tiny loop didn't tear. The thing was beating around pretty good and it held well.
