ATV/Tractor Log Trailer
« on: December 20, 2014, 06:08:40 PM »
Since I burn wood and have access to firewood behind a gated road I built a log trailer this summer to help with the firewood gathering .
I scrounged up all my scrap steel and did some beerengineering and came up with this configuration , the RonCo Lh 1.0 :)

All painted and spiffy looking .

Works well on uneven ground , here I was getting wood from a friends back yard .

Had it hooked up to my old Bota tractor today , works real good behind it as well .

While the steel cost me nothing the tires/rims/hubs and axle stubs sure put a dent in the sporin :(
I made the RonCo Lh 1.0  so that I could adjust to any length that I'd want and so that it can be completely disassembled and fit in the van .

Very slick build.  Well done.
Upon this a question arises: whether it be better to be loved than feared or feared than loved? One should wish to be both, but, because it is difficult to unite them in one person, it is much safer to be feared than loved.

Looks good.  Do you think you will need a gusset on the outside arms if you really load it up?  My pipe trailer (30' irrigation pipe hauler) was similar in design but yours is much better made.  I like the take down aspect too.

I think you did an awesome job on that build man, VERY nice!!!  The take down ability along with the versatility of being able to use it with so many different vehicles, really adds value to it in my eyes....enough to probably offset the tire/wheel/hub/spindle expense.  Plus the way the uprights are, you could still covert it to a sided-trailer (with a bottom) for cut wood if it became available.

That is some great fabrication skills! I like the orange paint too. I never learned to weld. Its one of those things I hope to learn one day. That's really an impressive build. Thanks for sharing the pics!

Too cool for school.  VERY nice!

Thanks for the kind words guys !
There was a lot of time invested in looking at pics and videos on the web LOL
I made it takedown for portability , it has a rotating hitch so it shouldn't roll the atv if it was to topple over .
Since it's adjustable I can haul 4' wood to what ever length I want by changing the log bunks or centre beam .
Yes , I can take plywood and screw it down if I want to haul other stuff .
As far as strength is concerned I don't think the log bunks will bend but I do wave to beef up the centre beam between the 2 axle assemblies , it takes all the weight so it needs to be bigger .
While I had this one at the shop a fella stopped in and paid me to build him one , his had the improvements :)
