oh goodness, that made me laugh right out loud.
thank you Jontok

I think I'll head out in a few and see if I can catch any more. Hike done, AWESOME hike it was. Great views of the meteors, and of course a lot of bears. Oddly I was only joking about seeing, playing patty cake with, them LOL. As it turns out though, did end up seeing a whole lot of them. Always cool seeing them.

Now, off to the lake and relax on a log, enjoy the breeze, and wait for a bite.

so i made it down to the lake

it was a beautiful day, i mean flat out beautiful - ya know...

BUT,
seemed the fish were not interested in biting anything i was presenting...

this guy however, was

and mighty happy bout being hooked too, let me tell ya...

so there i sat, relaxing completely, enjoying the breeze, and beautiful scenery as the sun set, and i thought
"hey, why not take a photo of this beautiful sunset",

well, right as i took the photo of the sunset, line just started peeling off my reel!!
woo-hoo!!!  fish on!

no, he's not a huge one by any means BUT he sure was fun to "fight" and land - and a great way to end the day

and the sunset after landing and then releasing my only fish caught for the day.  definitely a great day in my book. no doubt about it

Had a few hours after work, and lawn mowing, edging, and hedge trimming. Headed over to the lake to relax and see if any fish were maybe hungry a little.
Relaxed and enjoyed it immensly, and even had a little luck with a few fish
one carp

and, one channel cat

Thank You sir.
Been growing it for just over two years now. It is long enough to donate now (at least 10" in a pony tail), but just barely. I'm going to let it grow out a bit more yet, then get it chopped and donate it.

As I recall, you did the grow and donate thing also right? That was when we first all met - some years ago now.

went over to my buddies house this evening.
hadn't been over in a while, so it was good to catch up, relax, and of course put hooks in the water
course not a single fish was caught, but
it was a great and relaxing time - as it typically is

now i say not a fish was caught, which is true - but -
there was this other thing  8)

when I lived in upstate SC (outskirts of Easley) many years ago - we called them "cooters", and they were prized as food items. it is an over thirty pound snapping turtle, though they do get much bigger.  this one was caught on rod and reel, posed with for a photo, and gently put right back into the lake from which it had come.
they can be rather ornery critters, lol

U.W inspired me to take up fishing again..  So I got a license and took my son out 3 days ago. We didn't catch anything, but my son really enjoyed it.  So much so, he's woke me up every morning since at 5am to go fishing.  Sadly the weather has been crude, and nothing has been biting, but we got to spend some time outside, and my boy has got pretty good at casting.  So time well spent I'd say.

Trail around a SF pond.

About walked into this volleyball sized nest...   :-[

SP pond

2 days with out a bite, and I figured today would be about the same.. Still overcast, and rainy out..

Then I heard the drag buzzing on my son's pole.  Figured he was snagged in the lilly pads, but low and behold, he started hooting, and laughing. Turns out he had caught himself a nice little blue gill.   UL pole/4lb test/ orange beatlespin for bait.

Snapped a few pics, and then tossed him back in, and left with a good story.

Resurrecting a good summer thread here!  Also showing off my first catch in the boat!  23" Saugeye, 4.67lbs according to my scale.  It was pretty exciting for me and the family.  Caught it with a bottom bouncer setup with spinner and crawler harness

Nice fish!  We don't have those in the middle of SC.  Closest we've got is yellow perch and they don't get very large here.  Most folks here consider them trash fish, but I've caught a few that were big enough to keep and they were delicious!

Thanks guys!  Yeah they are great eating.  I'll need a few more but this one is filleted up and in the freezer.  When you get the bigger ones like this that are around 3lbs and bigger their cheeks are good too and a simple half moon slit and they just pop out.  They make for good appetizers while the fillets are cooking up!

Here?s the best LM I?ve caught so far this year.

That's a pretty bass Sarge!  I really like bass around the 4lb range.  They're fun to catch and bring in and you don't lose your mind about it if they come off at the boat/bank.

Here's the only pic I have of a bass in the boat from the other day.  Probably a 1.5lb fish since it was still wet!  Ha!  I seriously need to practice my boat landing on good sized fish.  I lost two good ones at the boat cause I was trying to grab them instead of flip them in...first one I think was around 3lbs but the other one I seriously think was around 5lbs.  I started cursing myself for not having a landing net...then remembered I did have one and it was in the boat!     ...so I just felt like an idiot for a few minutes...then decided to happy that I was catching some instead of nothing... anyways...here's the pic

I let a guy from church fish at our pond the other day.  He got a 4 1/2 pounder that was about 18" long.  He ate it for supper that night.  Caught on a yellow thing with a chrome spinner and a funny vibrating action.  He said it was a spinner bait.

Pond fishing is no joke. I?ve caught nice bass in farm ponds.

Wolfy, I just use the basics. Carolina and Texas rigged plastics, mostly Bomber and Rapala crankbaits... not as sexy as some of the new stuff but it works for me. Well sometimes.

A couple from an offshore trip in Pensacola this week. Both on light tackle. Caught others but these two were the highlights of the day.

Took a while to get this Jack Cravelle in the boat. First 3 or 4 times I got him close, he?d run again.

Nice fishing Sarge. That Red Snapper is a beauty and Jack's are a blast to catch, always a great fight. Mackerel is great smoked.  Actually, I'm headed to Ted Peters up in St. Petersburg in a few minutes to have some smoked fish.

Here's a couple pics from this last weekend with Jack and my FIL.  Jack caught his biggest fish to date with this drum that was probably 3-4lbs.  He had fun.  We were hoping it was a walleye but it still put on a show for him.

FIL caught a couple walleye's for the freezer.  Both were about the same size so here's a pic of one.

Love walleye fishing an eating them even better. Some O'timers taught me when I lived in SD how to fish for them. We always had great success in our numbers an size. Having a turkey platter piled high with cajun battered an fried walleye fillets, eating them like potato chips, Mmmmm

Great pics, OE! Can't beat walleye for eating.

Good luck saltwater fishing...I'll enjoy my lead for now. Haha. That area you are heading is beautiful. We went all the way to Pensacola because my brother and nephew booked that same guide last year.

The guide processed all our fish at the dock. He kept the bonita for cut bait. He had obviously filleted a fish or two. Then we had them vaccuum packed at the marina for the trip home. I like snapper, don't like mackerel as well. Thanks for the tip on smoking it, Greg. I'll give that a try for sure.

Well, I'm back from the beach and back to reality - working overtime, freshwater fishing for 2-lb bass when I can, wishing I was on the water or in the woods, etc.

Got in about an hour of fishing last night at the pond.  Caught a couple and one was probably pushing 4lbs.  Was happy to catch it not just for fun but to know good ones like that are still in there.  It's been awhile since I got anything over 3lbs from it.
