I've been on massdrop for a while. It's a group of people who basically vote on items to get group buys setup, then they go to manufacturers to get bulk pricing. It allows you to get a slightly lower price if a lot of people join.

Lots of audiophile stuff, some higher end edc stuff, like wallets, clothes, fountain pens, keyfobs, headphones, mics, headphone amps, etc. Knives are becoming more popular on there lately.
What's that smell?

i first saw it mentioned on hammockforums. someone had setup a drop for dutchwaregear

it's like having woot prices, but on stuff people actually want.

i purchased the bk16, it's the first thing i've bought. i'll report back on how the experience is, if people would like.

So last January, 2014, I bought a BK2 four $52 plus shipping. I think it was a $60 to my door. I didn't realize it then but I got a really good buy

overall, this purchase on massdrop has left me with mixed feelings...

pros
slightly cheaper price than other places online, $60 vs $75 average
once it did ship, it shipped fast

cons
after agreeing to purchase, my payment was in limbo until the order ended. let me explain... the "drop" lasts for so long, and when it's over, they charge everyone at once.
after that, i received an email saying they had contacted the dealer, and it would be a while before it got to them, THEN they would package it and ship it out to me.
the website was vague about the above process, and it kind of surprised me. my fault for not doing due diligince, i guess.
the website inflates the "suggested" price, to make it look like a better deal on their site. i know this is a common practice, but it's a little insulting to the intelligence, you know?

overall opinion, not too happy about the way the wait times work, or the inflated "regular" prices...

i'll still keep checking on it, to see if there are any REALLY good deals, but otherwise i'll just pay the slightly higher price for the better, quicker service. if you're cool with waiting 2-3 weeks for something to ship, massdrop is for you.

here's some unboxing pics. this is BLADES and bushlore, afterall...

Appreciate you're  thoughts on the service bighat, how's the knife itself? looks good, and nice to have a second set of scales.

Just got it unboxed... works hectic. I plan to put it thru it's paces and then post up a review. Not sure how soon though.

First I have heard of massdrop,
I do have a 16, great knife. About the best blade in it's class for the money IMO.
What a great day to be outside.

Got what you expected and saved a little. Not a bad deal. I've had a few BK's. Nothing wrong with them.
