A Double bit find
« on: June 01, 2016, 02:31:03 PM »
Picked this double bit axe the other day. I think it might be a Plumb, but that is just a guess.
( I only think that because of the color of the handle & the red color in the eye at the top.)
I haven't really looked at it took much, but just took a few crappy pics. only a couple came out though.  Haven't weighed the thing nor taped the handle for measurement. I will likely clean up the head a bit to remove the surface rust & see if I can find a maker mark. Anyway, for $8.50 US at a estate sale, It was a good deal, IMO.

Here is the pics. I will try to take some better ones later, though. Any one that can figure out the make, other than my guess, from these crappy pics is a very astute axe person.

one side:

The pic of the other side did not come out.

I will go take some more pictures later.

Anyway, for less than 10 bucks I am not gonna complain a bit.
 ;)

Just thought I would share the nice "find".
:)

I love being out in the woods!   I like this quote from Mors Kochanski - "The more you know, the less you carry". I believe in the same creed, & think  "Knowledge & honed skills" are the best things to carry with ya when you're out in the wilds. They're the ultimate "ultralight" gear! ;)

It must be a Plumb......or a danged good copy.   It looks to be a twin to mine.....except for the rust. 8)    For a paltry 8.5 frogskins, you got a heckuva good axe there, JB! :chopwood:

The edges look good.  After you revive it I bet it's the best $8 axe you ever have!  Good find!  I'd say your on the right track based on the red coloring so far.

Appears that not only the head, but even the helve is in excellent shape.  My guess is it's probably a Plumb, but even if it isn't, sure can't be too upset about $8.50!
