The Sharpfinger
« on: July 04, 2016, 01:03:24 PM »
Growing up, many of the men i hunted with used the old Schrade Sharpfingers, and I've always liked the feel of them. My understanding is that they are not very well-made these days, if true, that's a shame.  In any case, I picked a Condor Sharpfinger in 420HC (i don't understand their steel selection sometimes, but I don't mind the 420HC).  The knife feels great in the hand and I think I'll like it if its heat-treated properly.  Condor is a crapshoot, sometimes you get a great blade for $$, sometimes you get a badly heat-treated knife that looks like it was profiled by a blind, drunk guy lol...  But so far, I'm liking the Sharpfinger a lot...

I have a love for old USA made Schrade knives.  I had a sharpfinger and its big brother, the Deerslayer.  I traded the deerslayer stupidly on bladeforums cuz i wanted a "better" knife...if i only had the knowledge back then...

My Sharpfinger lives in one of my turkey hunting vests. Excellent knife, IMHO, for cleaning birds. and small game. Didn't like it much when used on larger stuff.
:)
I love being out in the woods!   I like this quote from Mors Kochanski - "The more you know, the less you carry". I believe in the same creed, & think  "Knowledge & honed skills" are the best things to carry with ya when you're out in the wilds. They're the ultimate "ultralight" gear! ;)

Yeah - The Deerslayer is a great knife!  You can do a lot with that blade!

Yep - Growing up I remember older guys using them for squirrel and gutting deer a lot...  If you like the blade pattern, check out the Condor, the handle is really comfortable in my med/large (glove size) hands...

Somewhere around this joint I have an extra Sharpfinger sheath, or at least what looks like one....

Don't even remember how I ended up with it... ???  I have NO use for it. If someone wants it, let me know. It isn't what I would call the best sheath I ever saw, & it is not made as well as the old original one I keep mine in, and I don't think it was ever "neatsfooted/leather treated", but I will readily pass it on if someone needs one.

Just thought to mention it, if anyone is interested....

My dad's schrade sharpfinger has cleaned a ton of rabbits in its day as we raised them to eat when I was a kid. Always thought it was a very sharp cool old knife when mom used it on the rabbits. I am sure it's cleaned its share of deer also.
