Double Overhand Knot Challenge
« on: October 14, 2016, 08:20:47 AM »
The more familiar double overhand knot shown in the upper photo makes a fine stopper knot.
The mystery double hand knot (It might have a proper name) is shown in the lower photo.  Obverse and reverse views.
Can you knot tyers duplicate it?

I worked on it for an hour. I researched and I experimented. That is a single strand correct?

Form a loop, then form another loop, take the tag end bring it up & over the other end where ya started the loops, down through the loops, then repeat the same by bringing the tag end up over & down thru the 2 loops again, bringing the tag end out of the knot.

That is my mental knot deciphering & tying guess, withOUT actually getting some cordage out.
 ;)

So....That is without tying it, but just looking at the knot for a minute or so. If I find the time I will take some pics or make a video. but the above is what I see. Reminds me once again of a doubled poachers knot/scaffold knot with extra loops. Maybe because I like using the poachers knot so much.... LOL

I love being out in the woods!   I like this quote from Mors Kochanski - "The more you know, the less you carry". I believe in the same creed, & think  "Knowledge & honed skills" are the best things to carry with ya when you're out in the wilds. They're the ultimate "ultralight" gear! ;)

Darn, kind of simple when you see that.
