Different profiles?
« on: November 25, 2016, 10:04:50 PM »
So the other day I happen to be poking around youtube when I stumbled across a rather goofy person doing reviews on knives from a company I have never heard of; MLL.  I'm always on the lookout for something unique and different, especially if it's from a company that's not mainstream, so instantly I'm intrigued.  This person is doing tests on two knives that look quite similar, the Amazon (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-zTpFfdG_4) and Three (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0b90oTHNjc), and I like them both.  Unfortunately, there's a problem; the former has a different profile then the one I find on the companies website, while the latter doesn't appear to exist at all.

Is anyone familiar with either of these knives?  If so, can you give me some insight about them?  Thanks...

You may want to scroll down to our venders forum,  Mario (MLL Knives) is a member here and has a Gallery thread plus pictures and details of most of his offerings,  though he is making inroads in the US market his knives are well known and well received in Europe.
I have four of his knives ,  an Adirondack, Kephart, Splinter S, and Companion, all have been great and capable general duty and bushcraft knives, there are also other members here that have and enjoy his knives.

After posting above I did go back and watch the videos that you linked,  personally I didn't think the reviewer appeared to be goofy at all,  I think his video was high quality,  his presentation was confident and he showed that he was quite skilled and experienced in what he showed,  he may have repeated himself a bit more than he needed to, but we all have little traits here and there that others might view as different,  he doesn't seem much different than the average person one might meet on the street of at a bushcraft event.
By the way,  the knife that he used in the first and second video was the same MLL Amazon Hunter,  the other knife he used in the first video to compare the two was a Mora #2 model,  the Mora is a cheap production made utility knife while the MLL is a custom made specialty knife,  the Mora #2 costs about $12.00,  MLL custom knives sell on average from $150.00 ~ $300.00.

As Moe notes they are custom knives so each one is a bit different from another of the same model.  They are well made, well thought out designs, and very good types of steel.  Mario uses a lot of different wood and synthetic material in his scales.  Some are plain and some are spectacular.  Worth a look if you like quality knives.

The word 'goofy' was associated to the irreverent and lighthearted way the video's were done, and as such they came off as goofy to me.  I never challenged his skill, just made note of how they were presented is all.

Well that explains why I couldn't find the second knife on MLL's website, and also why I liked both of them; it was the same knife!  I definitely wasn't comparing them to a Mora.  I own a Bushcraft Black and Garberg, and while both are very nice knives I tend to use them as the secondary knife when I go out.  My primary blade tends to be a bit more hardy.

For what seems to be a small shop they offer a lot of blade styles, profiles and options.  I like being able to customize to taste.  I'll bet some of the combo's would yield really cool look knives.
