Outdoor Camera thoughts.

My Canon Powershot 720A has given it up.  Dropping it on the kitchen floor didn't help much either.  It is a daunting task to find a camera out of the hundreds that are available out there. 

Here is what I think is needed:

Point and Shoot
water resistant or water proof
small enough to fit in a large shirt pocket
some zoom capability (but not 40x optical)
Not more than $400 but less would be good.

I have a digital SLR with a few lenses but don't like lugging it around.  It is old but works well and I have a fair bit of money in the system so I just need a point and shoot. 

We live where there is no cell service so a smart phone with a camera doesn't make a lot of sense for me.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi wsdstan!

I wish I could help.  I chose a Cannon Powershot SX50HS ($200+).  But it is too large to meet your "pocket" requirement.  It's a superzoom and I use it instead of a DSLR.  Its "long lens" allows me to photograph wildlife from a reasonable distance.  I carry it in a nylon case that I suspend below my chest using a "binoculars rig."

I use a Nikon AW120 (I think the 130 is the current version).  It seems to work just fine.

Canon Powershot D30 might be something to take a look at.

Thanks for the comments.  It has been several years since a camera was bought and there are so many of them out there it is hard to sort them out.  I read a few reviews on dpreview and sites like that.

Woodsorrel you are right, it is too large for what I want.

Crash, those are great photos.
