It was a balmy -15 F here at 6:30 this morning.  -12 at the house and -15  down at the county road which is lower and gets the air that flows down the river valley.  Driving into town it goes up into the -11 F range.

We got a dusting on snow but no wind so it is tolerable out for a time.  Supposed to be 30 F in a couple of days.  I can't wait.   :-\

11+ here right now, but the 25mph winds make the 5 in. of light, fluffy snow we got a couple of days ago drift around some.  Even though the bugs are gone, I am not at all interested in taking the bike out for a spin. :coffee:

They said it would be 30F today.  Got to 16F in town and about 12F out where we live.  High winds up to 50 mph tomorrow are forecast with no new snow here but lots of snow east of the Missouri river.  Next week we might get a day in the low to mid forties.  That would be nice.

Temps were at -22*F last night. Tomorrow night will be warmer with a low of only -12. But, the winds are going to pick up to around 30 mph or so with gusts to 48. With 2 or 3 inches of fresh snow on the ground, it looks to get a little nasty out in the open areas. I think Saturday will be a hunker down at home day. Sounds like a good day for some chili simmering in the crock pot.

Geez, now you can't walk in the palms without the danger of a Iguana falling on you.   The good news is that those invasive critters might get thinned down a bit although the temp is going back to seventy shortly.

Iguana not eat one.

I draw the line (until I am starving) at snakes, worms, and lizards; even if they do taste like chicken.

The cold air moved in yesterday afternoon and we went from the mid 30's to 2 degrees in about four hours.  Lasted all night and this morning it was still 2 F.  Got up to mid 20's today and is currently 17F.

On the good side there was no wind and no snow and no power outages.  The stock water didn't freeze as the heaters stayed on all night.  It is no fun to go out in the morning and find the water basins frozen solid.   :-X

It's been a very mild winter here.  'Course even our worst winters would seem extremely mild compared to what some of you guys face every year.  The daffodils have been in bloom for the last two weeks.

We got up to around 45 today and hopefully tomorrow too.  Winter still has a long run left here.  We get snow in April most years.  I guess it keeps the riff raff from coming here from California.

At 6:00 AM it was 24 F and snowing.  Now it is 9:20 AM and 19 F and still snowing but......... the wind isn't blowing.  No bbq work outside today we are headed for a low of 14 F.

There was just an ad on the TV about Cruises.  Two young and nubile girls laying by a pool drinking and then a flash to two girls bundled up in a snow storm and pushing a baby carriage with a screamer in it and they ask what the girls laying by the pool had that they didn't have and the guy answered "condoms".

(This ad pisses me off because it is anti-child and "lets have fun" is more important than "lets have family".)  It made me laugh though.   :P

4 degrees at 6:00 AM, no overnight snow and the wind hasn't shown up.  Stock water is doing well.  We are supposed to get into the forties today and the weekend says over 50 F both days and then back to normal in the twenties for most of next week.

On Tuesday we got about 8" of snow with some drifting.  The snow blade on the skid steer got a work out and did very well.  We were 25 F at 7:00 AM in the morning and I was a bit surprised that the Bobcat started easily.  It usually doesn't when it is below 30F.

This morning it was a minus 8F but no wind.  The whole place is covered with snow and nothing is melting for sure.  My stock water tank did not freeze overnight so I was glad about that.  I have a cottontail that has decided to live under the skidloader and it has been there several mornings in a row although he may have looked for a bit better spot due to the snow as I did not see him this morning.

We are supposed to get up to 38 F today but I will believe that when I see it.  The next ten days look better but we never get over the high 30's in the day and drop to low 20's at night.  Winter is a long time going in these parts and it is still February so we have another 6 weeks at least and probably through all of April for snow.  Our last freeze date is late May around here and this year the cold might linger till then.

Temp was 32 F this morning and it snowed or blew it around, a bit, and I cannot tell which.  The deer have come out from the heavy cover and are looking for sustenance but it is a sea of white in all directions.  Should start melting a bit today and tomorrow.  I prefer snow packed to mud but we are gonna have some serious mud when this snow goes.

The wind is up and it will drift some areas given its direction.

Two days ago we got a little snow, drifts were two feet in front of the shop roll up door but ten feet away it was bare ground cause the wind was in the 20 mph range with gusts to probably 30 for about twenty hours.  Temperatures were about 20 on the low end and 30 for highs.  This morning I plowed the big drift out of the front of the shop.  It was 26 and rising fast so we might get to the mid thirties or even 40 by early afternoon.  Half way through March and it is still too cold to go out without a heavy coat and ear protection with a good pair of gloves along to boot.

Checked the beaver traps again this morning but they have not tried to repair the damage I made in the dams so I am thinking they have moved on up the creek and maybe into the reservoir.  Time will tell.

-5oF with a -20oF windchill tonight. Isn't spring supposed to be here soon? Dang!

Took the dog to the mailbox and I normally let him run back home. This afternoon, he shimmied to the far side of the truck. Obviously he thought it was too cold and windy for a run. Can't say as I blame him. I let him stay in the truck until we got within the shelter belt and the wind was blocked. He thought that was a much better idea.

Mid 80's here today.  We're pretty much hunkered down because of the corona virus.  You can get a lot done on the "to do" list when you don't have anything "to do."  Had a nice fire in the fire pit tonight, cooked some great steaks over it, had some drinks, and listened to some great music out under the stars on a beautiful night.

Temp dropped to about 12F last night and was 22F at 7:00 AM.  Warming up and the skiff of snow we got last night has mostly melted on the roads and sidewalk by the house.  We are holed up at the farm which isn't a bad thing until you start talking to yourself and change your voice so it sounds like two people.  :-X

We got a spring snow overnight and part of this morning.  5" but windy so there is bare ground next to two feet of drift.  Lot of snow on the roof and when it let go this morning off of the metal roof it sounded like an earthquake.  Temperatures were about 10F early this AM and it is 19F at the moment.  Wind speed is brisk and the radio said the wind chill is a -8F around noon.  Hard on the new calves unless they are in shelter belts or windbreaks.

If you lived around here today you would be glad you were not outside working on some frozen pipe or pulling a calf.  Supposed to warm up for the weekend.

Watching Eric Gardner on KOTA out of Rapid City this afternoon. A weatherman with a little personality. Keeps it interesting. He put the system total at 8 1/2 inches. That wind chill makes it tough on livestock.

Thankfully, IT'S NOT TOO BAD here in northeast Nebraska.....they are predicting waves of freezing rain overnight, tonight.  We just returned from a ride out to the state park and the precipitation was beginning to freeze on the windshield before we got back from the store & post office, but the road surface was warm enough that it was melting before the cool-down overnight, when it WILL become treacherous out there.  Supposed to warm into the 50s tomorrow, so it will all be gone by afternoon.....we are concerned over the power lines & trees, though!

I don't remember it ever getting this cold in April in the time we have lived here.  Early this morning it was a balmy -3F and at 7:00 AM it is still a -2.6F.  It is sunny so we ought to get into the 30's for a high.
