Very useful for knives with a method to fasten a lanyard on.  I have a couple without lanyards.

I hope you're using the lanyard as a pull assist from your pocket. That little ring will strighten out fairly easilly. I lost a knife because I used a small quick release key chain on a clip to my belt loop. By the end of the day all I had was a bent up split ring hanging.
World's best pocket knife. Can't live without my camper.

I carry my One Hand Trekker SAK on a long lanyard attached to a belt loop.   Keeps me from laying it down somewhere.
