Reality got a little closer today.
« on: December 09, 2019, 05:15:55 PM »

I've wanted a good big wood shop for some time now.  Always not enough room, not enough time, couldn't justify the expense.... etc...  Well, I'm not getting any younger, so there's a big old chunck of concrete out there now just waiting for the building.

Congrats on making your dreams happen!

Can't wait to see some of your future wood projects.

Thanks.  The shop itself is 30 - 60 days out and then there's wiring, plumbing and equipment move in.  Maybe by summer i'll be ginning.

Be sure you put a paint and stain room in it.  With an exhaust system.

Can't tell how big that slab is but you are gonna have fun I would think.

Paint and stain room is a good idea.  It's 32x42.  Building will be 30x36 with a covered area of 12x20 on the south side for the mill and a 20' Conex on the other side of that.

Alan the conex box would be a good place for a paint rm. due to the volitile chems.
remember when you do the electric, use dedicated outlets for all the big stuff.
planer, table saw,compressor, bader3 belt grinder,heh heh .
then there's plenty of light, a large dust collection system a must.

Ordered the shop. It'll be 30x40.

It would be interesting to see how this goes up.  Post a few photos if you have the time.

I'll do that.  Most of the work for the next month or so will be clean up and of course the meter loop.  When the shop is delivered it sits on the slabs next to the big one until the workers arrive.  From what I've seen of these things they go up in a day or two, maybe three.  Then the wiring, lights, outlets, etc.  But, it'll get done!

May I ask what compamy you're buying from? I've been looking around for a long time.

You picked a good size for a shop. Of course everyone always wishes they went a little bigger right? Great sugestions everyone!! Looking forward to the build.

I don't know any more about them than their internet presence.  They were very helpful and I called them several times before actually ordering when I had questions about slab size and what I needed to have in place for the building.

We'll see how it plays out.

I love building.  Kelly and I built our cabin in NC from scratch.  I doubt I could do it now.

I like building too, and I would have liked to have done this myself, but, Sometimes, I appears that time is getting short so I decided to go with the "prefab somebody else do it" building and I'll spend my time on the innards and the stuff that I want to make.

I would truly love to build a log cabin by hand, axe and adze.  But, We've got a serious shortage of log type logs in South Texas and from I remember about swinging an axe, I certainly don't have that much juice left in me these days.
