Axe handle finish

What do people use on their axe handles. I have two old axes, with bare wood. I was thinking of using linseed oil.  ???
I did a search, but came up with nothing.  :-\

Boiled linseed oil is what I use.

Boiled linseed oil is what I use on wood ladders. I have some Birchwood Casey Tru-oil, and it is linseed oil with some additives.
Sharper is better

Regular linseed oil takes a very long time to dry.
The 'boiled' linseed oil these days it not really boiled anymore, but has some chemicals in it to make it dry faster.
Therefor this is the preferred oil on handles, but dont use it for cuttingboards or spoons for example.
Other oils i used are tung oil and olive oil.
If you whipe it of, it wont go rancid.

I use one part turpentine and three part linseed oil. or just linseed oil.

I've finished a lot of my axe handles with sweat.

But,  I have a mixture of mineral oil and beeswax that I use on a lot of my wood that gets wet or washed regularly (steak knives, wooden spoons/spatulas, and other sorts of wooden things).

I heat some mineral oil in a pot and start adding beeswax. When I get about 2:1 oil:wax, I let it cool.  If its solid, reheat and add oil, If it's too liquidy, I add wax.  I want it just about the consistency of honey when it is completely cool to room temp. 

A little bit goes a long way and it is food safe.
