It has been a while since I popped in here. I wanted to share a few pictures I took yesterday while out in the desert. Saw a bit of wildlife. I was glad to have a real camera with me for a change.

Is that a Gopher Snake?  The only thing I know about cacti is "don't sit on 'em"!

Nice shots PW.  Those Gopher snakes are pretty.  Pretty decent antelope too.

Not sure about the snake and cactus. It does look like pictures of a gopher snake, though.

Went to an aviary yesterday. This was one of the few pictures where I was able to do a good job focusing out the cage wire.

This spring was the first time I've ever seen rose breasted grosbeaks at one of the feeders.  Several hung out for a week or so on their northward migration.

Cool pictures guys!

Just out of frame to the left is an empty bird feeder.

Here she is heading to empty out the other one.

I'm not going to refill those feeders.  If she/they start hitting the ones right next to the house, I may leave those empty for a while, too.  It's expensive enough to keep the flying pigs fed without the deer eating it all.

Lol!

We have chipmunks and squirrels that raid our feeders all the time. This year is different, though. It was a really dry winter, and then the end of spring and beginning of summer has been uncharacteristicall y rainy. The whole valley is green this year, when it usually is brown. Our two feeders have been up for days without needing a refill. Last fall we had about 25 pinion jays on the ground fighting for the seeds that fell from the feeders.

That's why they call it the "golden hour", just before sunset. ;)

Though I did bump up the saturation quite a bit and came down on the brightness some too. It looked rather flat before.

I can usually spot photos that have been 'enhanced' from a mile away, but in this case, I think the time of day and the condition of the sky and landforms allowed for a lot of the 'personal interpretation' that came together and helped you bring it off.  NICE WORK, Boss, it looks very natural! :hail:

Glad you like it Wolfy, its one of my favorites too :) That was taken on my way to the Durban Harbor Mouth. You have to walk about 4km along the beach, then duck through the fence at the old whaling station which was shut down in the late 1970's, and then sneak past the navy base up on the hill. Awesome spot to fish, and its really peaceful cos not many folks dare to pass through. I usually fish on the Southern breakwater. I have a few more pics somewhere. will try post soon.
