Custom made period correct muzzle loading firearms
« on: August 11, 2012, 05:57:27 PM »

While this is not a review of any specific firearm,  it is recommendation to all who enjoy muzzle loading,  specifically fine traditional firearms.

Werewolf won and I took a short road trip today to visit with one of this country's top historical custom firearms makers,  on a personal note,  both wolf and i own a few examples of Ed Parry's beautifully handcrafted flintlock long guns.
Besides being one of  this year's first first place winners at Dixon's Gun Fair,  this country's most prestigious muzzle loading makers event,  a place where the best of the best of the country's top traditional gun makers meet every year to submit examples of their work to be judged for their excellence,  with the judges being the gun makers themselves,  Ed is an interesting guy,  a retired submariner,  specialist in nuclear power, and an oceanographic consultant to Mystic Seaport Research Center,  and renowned M/L gun builder,  He's a long time good friend.
While there we were treated with the honor of not only viewing some of Ed's latest creations,  but actually being able to fondle a few.

My suggestion to all here who appreciate fine arms to take a trip via the internet to Blackhart LongArms,  you will be treated to a gallery of true works of art.
  You won't be disappointed.

Dixons Gun Fair is a really amazing place.

I have been buying my muzzleloader and mountain man stuff from Chuck and the family for quite a few years. I have bought several muzzleloaders from them and I try to make it every year to the fair, but usually miss it for various reasons. The shop is about an hour and a half from me. Thank goodness it is not any closer!!!!!

I am not familiar with Ed Parry, but I will look into him based on your recommendation! Thank you for the info!

I'm luckier than you,  i'm a lot further away.   :)

But like I said, you won't be disappointed.

He had some stunning stuff.  The thumb piece he hand made for that pistol was just unreal.  How quickly he adjusted our fowlers was kind of awe inspiring too.  I half expected to be leaving them there and picking them up in a year when they were ready.

It was a great trip, indeed!

I'll be a story in your head, but that's OK we're all stories in the end.  Just make it a good one!

I googled Blachhart Longarms and this is what I got. They have some malware issues so I won't be taking a look unfortunately. Thanks for the info though as I love period correct stuff too.

Those are such good looking guns. I would love to have something along those lines one day.

You can see one more in the firearms section in the Old School BP Fowler thread,  it's made by the same maker and owned by one of our members.
